Not too bad - gained a few seconds but nothing catastrophic. Guess it likes being worn.

Nope it’s a different watch. It’s gone from tool to luxury and lost most of the beauty that made it great.

That GMT master is aces.. roughly what year is that if anyone cares to share?
-
• #48830
Yup, that’s what I thought. And also mine looses about 1-2s during the night if stored crown down. So, you can make it pretty much bang on.
Now... Paul Newman’s Daytona is going to be auctioned in December, anyone’s keen?

Didn't deny that, did I?
Ed said: 'You’re right, it is still in production since the first one, even thought the original look nothing like the current one.'
I am merely disagreeing with that and telling him why.

Sure, they've retained a couple of styling cues but I'd call these vastly different watches visually. They don't look that similar to me!
-
• #48833
Call me cray but as Ed was saying I think an argument could be made to draw as many similarities to the Black Bay.

Look at many icons that have evolved over time- 1970’s 911 vs the 911 of 2020.

Ah apologies, I didn’t read the description. Seller is at least honest. I’m the same, I won’t touch anything unless it has a perfect dial and near-perfect case.
@inchpincher it looks like those are replacement hands, prob from an OP or OP Date.
@PawG a couple from my collection

All I'm saying is: these are two products from the same family that 'look nothing like the current one'.
2019 Chevrolet Impala
1958 Chevrolet Impala

The grey dial looks amazing. What year is it?

1967

They don’t make em like they used to.
I’ve got to say that more often 😂

I'm with you here.
While there maybe a bit of a point in relation to the very first design, the majority have been very similar with the same design language. These range from the 50s to the 00s

If you need to play spot the differences rather than spot the similarity, then it's more similar than not.
Also in my typically cynical fashion I don't buy this whole tool to jewelry narrative. I'm sure some people used to use them for diving once upon a time. But for the majority of their production money is on that number being roughly the same.

Isn’t the Rolex submariner an homage to the Blancpain fifty fathoms though?

Yes.
That's why the OG, a blatant rip off, quickly evolved.
If we want to talk about tool to jewellery the FF is a better eg.

Apparently it’s Friday. What are you wearing today? As per usual, my new Apple Watch won’t be on display.
-
• #48844
Lol. I mean, not to ascribe words to the Scoble but perhaps that’s what he meant by modern subs being homage watches. Idk.
Happy Friday everyone!

Early start means I'm rocking the new emperor.

That’s cracking but too big for my skinny wrists.

TBF we’re talking about homage/reissues within a company.

Tapestry dial is strong, look forward to seeing that when watch nerd normality resumes.
Two others on my radar are a nice Buckley white dial with the black hand combo or a crispy Shantung dial but would need to sell something first and I’m rubbish at that.

@Howard How is your watch doing?
Mine is currently at +7s, so works out about +2s per day. I think it might have settled a bit after 2 weeks of wear.
