  • Studded tyres are not needed to ride in snow, unless you're deliberately aiming to ride when you know it's sheet ice on untreated back roads then studs aren't needed for that either. Millions of cyclists long before me have got about during the winter without.
    A bit lower pressure and just taking it a bit steadier where the likelihood of ice might remain It's more about thinking do I need to cane it on roads that are likely to be slippery than caning it and thinking studs are going to prevent you having an incident. Just like helmets, seatbelts and a whole raft of other interventions, they rarely actually work to lower incident rate/outcome.
