Cassette matching chainring(s)!!!

  • Hey all,
Doesn't having a big, shinny cassette of 42t+ bother you (talking aesthetics here)? I mean nowadays groupsets are all black and then there is one huge ,shiny thing on the rear part of the bike.

I've seen people get matching biggest ring of the cassette with the front chainring and jockeys but as I don't want to invest this kind of money in parts that will need changing regularly, I want to make it work the simple way  which I thought was a silverish matching drivetrain.

The thing is I don't really like shining silver matched with glossy black.  I've bought a M7000 cassette. It isn't silver and because of this the contrast isn't so great between two colours. The problem is - now it seems impossible to find a matching chainring. Has anyone got something in mind? What do you think about this ? Am I looking into this wrong from your perspective?

  • Don’t clean your cassette 🛎 next!

  • Sounds like an absolutely horrid problem to have in 2020.

As someone coming from the other direction (agonizing over a lack of modern silver components) I can say with confidence, you're never going to match everything perfectly, best just to forget about it and ride your bike.

  • SRAM PG-1130 or Sunrace CSMX8 are both black.

But has never really occurred to me this issue.

  • Am I looking into this wrong from your perspective?

If you look at your bike from the non-drive side, you'll hardly notice it.

  • But you'll get silver discs

  • yeah I know but then coating wears down and it looks messy

  • Brexit, worldwide pandemic, brink of massive recession, impending climate disaster, rainforests being destroyed for burgers, global shortages of everything expected for quite some time, growing division in society return of far right extremism, hospitality industry about to die...

But my bikes consumables don’t match.

If it really bothers you, you can buy a sram oil slick cassette and matching chain, then find a matching chainring. I think maybe you need to get out of the house a bit more often.

  • Then it will still match your chainring.
