Anyone know how he decided on the shape of the fiberglass shell? Any actual testing, or is it just a shape which should have the lowest CdA?

Wasn't it something about just finding the smallest frontal area? Room for the shoulders, and then just making everything as narrow as possible.

"A team of Dutch students"

The film Battle Mountain is on this Sunday at the Lexi Cinema with a Q&A from the man:
https://thelexicinema.co.uk/film/battle-mountainCycling legend Graeme Obree is a truly inspirational character. His determination to succeed against all odds has twice seen him hold the land speed record (in 1993 and 1994), as well as being named the World 4000m Pursuit Champion (in 1993 and 1995). David Street’s charming documentary follows “The Flying Scotsman” as he prepares for the human-powered vehicle land speed record attempt in Nevada, using a very unusual bike designed by himself and christened “The Beastie” by his friend Sir Chris Hoy.
We have a great night in store! 'The Beastie' - Obree's bullet-shaped aerodynamic carapace for the bicycle - is coming to the Lexi, along with Obree himself and director Street. The BBC's Charlotte Smith, 'Countryfile' presenter, will be chairing a Q&A with them after the film.

Saw the film at the Hackney Picture House this afternoon, I was surprised there weren't more people there to be honest, but they are doing quite a lot of screenings for a film which doesn't have a marketing budget.
The film is great and we all got to hang around with Graeme afterwards and admire his sweet fixie. I asked him and he reckons it runs about 320 gear inches.
Also had a fascinating conversation with him about coming out and the lack of gays in the pro peloton, one I've always wanted to have. It's really nice when your heroes live up to expectations :)

I watched it today in Cambridge. The film is a bit average, but Obree afterwards was charming, witty and honest, I could have listened to him all afternoon.
From the outside he seems to have found some peace too. Though I know naff all about mental illness.

What a great guy. -

He's a good guy, met him a few times at HPV events but his recumbent streamliner was a disaster. Even I've gone faster than 46mph on my streamliner some years ago, and that was a trike.
His hour record was astonishing though. To attempt it twice in 24 hours was unheard of.

Hope he can double that...
