Had no idea that Whorehouse was based on a true story. One of the only musicals ever made that's worth watching (Dolly and Burt ftw).

A very true story. The ZZ Top song La Grange is based on those events.
It's a lovely little town with a very nice state park and monument nearby. The monument is on the site of a mass grave of Texan victims of a military decimation at the hands of the Mexican army in 1842. I know this because my ancestor was one of the survivors.

That investigative report character is based on an actual TV reporter. He was best known for breaking the chicken ranch story, which was basis of the musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
