  • You London based? I imagine there should be a lot of decent coffee shops that stock them. LMNH did last time I checked but that was a long time ago admittedly.

  • Sadly not, live in Portsmouth so online is only option really.

  • Square Mile online shop seems to have them

  • Great shout, thanks. They have the Japanese boxed filters, just ordered some now :)

  • Is there much difference between white and brown?

  • Can't speak for the V60 ones, but the unbleached Chemex filters need much more rinsing than the bleached ones. Felt they probably weren't actually better considering the additional amount of hot water needed to rinse them.

  • Excuse my ignorance but why do they need more rinsing? I rinse my filters a bit before using but I was never really sure what I was supposedly achieving.

Edit: googled it. I'm probably not rinsing mine enough it seems. But I'm also not using the greatest coffee at the moment. Need some cash to get another YB order in. Local faire is dirt in comparison!

  • Removing the paper taste, it's definitely more noticeable with unbleached ones but if you want an example try putting a dry filter paper on your tongue to see how it tastes. I'm using some big size 4 unbleached ones and they smell like that loosely compressed recycled card they had in school art departments

  • ry putting a dry filter paper on your tongue to see how it tastes

    Wild weekend here I come!

  • Yup, definitely more of a cardboard-like taste out of the unbleached ones unless they're thoroughly rinsed. Only do a single rinse with the bleached ones, and at least 3 for the unbleached ones.

  • ^ Agree with all the above, the brown ones have a definite cardboard box 📦 taste about them which is difficult to get rid of.

  • Just had a coffee

  • I can help with that wildness:

  • Anyone know anything about Lelit grinders?

    https://espresso.lelit.com/product/22

  • Is the niche zero really good enough for an all in one home grinder (daily changes from espresso > filter and back)? Would be interested to hear peoples experiences.

I've got an 8 year old iberital mc2 at the moment and it's a nightmare to dial in.

  • I would assume yes, and add that the Baratza Sette 270 also is, as I use it for both espresso and filter on a daily basis.

  • 100% yes. I do those changes constantly and it's great.

  • Excellent thanks, I'll put it on the : Things i shouldn't buy that are £500 but I probably will anyway list

  • Sage/Breville Smart Grinder Pro - please refresh my memory, on here opinions of it? Can't find a James Hoffman review so don't have a benchmark to go on.

We have one at work. Thinking of committing to a grinder for espresso with my Gaggia Classic. I'm going to have a play with it to get an idea what I want/like/need without having to buy one.

So far I like: weight, small footprint, simple setup, hopper removal doesn't drop beans all over floor, timer.

  • have one of these and also use with Gaggia Classic. find that it is adequate for that and also switching between filter too.
tend to lose a few grinds from around the edge of the portafilter and moka pot basket but nothing crazy or too annoying.

  • Compositable pods from Rave coffee, I assume you put them in with your food waste.

  • I had one for three years of weekend work until the gearbox gave up under the added stress of lockdown.

For what it cost it was pretty solid and consistent until then (and a definite step up from the Delonghi I had before), though often needed redialing in after a few cups.

  • If you know anyone with an NHS email address you might be able to get one for £99.99 direct from Sage. I asked nicely of customer services and got a £100 code.
