Very good questions! I think the main reason is to give myself a bit of a treat, as my holiday's been cancelled and I'm very very bored.
Also I read a few reviews that said upgrading the wheels made a big difference to the overall feel of the bike, so I thought I could redirect the money from my doomed flights....
Lastly, the front is rattling ominously!
What makes you think the current wheels are no good, what do you hope to achieve by buying other wheels, what 'improvement' are you looking for exactly?
The R450s are an okay alternate to the ubiquitous Open Pro and are slightly wider so regards modern trend toward wider tyre for road riders are helpful in that regard. What is wrong with the 105 hubset, they appear to have a good cost to reliability ratio.
Unless the rims are worn or wheelset badly built I'm not seeing what you are going to gain by spending £250, a few hundred grams due to losing spoke count, is a not particularly aero rim really going to make a lot of difference to your style of riding?
