• Where do you need to ride that you need that big of gear range with something as low as 34-46? That's well below the walking speed

  • Badlands. Yeah, I did quite a lot of walking, and I don't like it. My theory is that if I can at least attempt to ride this steep, rocky kind of thing I'll get better skills and won't have to dismount and walk so often. I'm basically using my gravel bike as a mountain bike in races like this.

  • You can definitely go up to 46 with a Wolftooth imho, happy to lend you mine if you want to give it a go. That gear ratio would be orrible for anything but Badlands though.

    Also, consider the length of the chain needed for that gear range

  • I think if your looking to ride rocky ascents on a gravel bike with such a low gear ratio on a rigid bike, the lack of momentum and traction might get you first.

    No one likes pushing but some times you've just got to suck it up. I'm just wondering if the route in question has climbs that are worse than the marginally possible climb in Swinley.
