Hugh Carthy 2nd in the Vuelta,,the good news just keeps coming
Seems to be doing it without much help from his team, either, or is that just how it looks on TV?

Been quite the week for rain jackets. -

What happened to Martinez? dnf stage 4 but not seen why? Woods crashed on day 1.

Was Hindleys helmet today the same design as Roglic's TdF final TT one?

Rewatching Tao on Eurosport as only caught the end at work, then onto watch this in a mo, will be interesting to see how it all un-zips.

You do know I was barracking for Tao, right?
I'd never even heard of JH until stage 20 or something.

Glut of easy-fasten rain jackets coming in 3-2-1....

That's what Hutch said.
It looked like a poor choice given his head position. Every time he put his head down, which was often, there was a massive gap behind the helmet tail. With fuck all TTing in Oz I fully expected Tao to decimate him. Props to Hindley though, best Aussie Giro finish, one up on Cadel.

Yes I had a moment too, still giddy from seeing Tao win, where I took him seriously. Looking back think he may have been flush with joy and a few drinks but he at the least seemed like he wanted to believe it. He’s got a team seriously deep in talent if he wanted to.
And, agreed on Saturday - I had watched most of it before we went out but had to wait to finish it. I knew he’d done enough at least from text notifications but the last 5km still had my heart going.

He needed 50 watts or something with Tao being 5kg or so heavier

Ineos put their jackets on much earlier on the Stelvio climb so perhaps their fingers were less cold and there was less ‘in nearly at the top pressure’ and I saw Froome picking up the team jackets while every other ream was tapping along at the Vuelta yesterday.
I imagine them practicing these sorts of drills for fun on camps etc just to break the monotony on the riding with the coaches knowing that one day it will make the difference. -

I didn't do any research into their physiology. I just looked at difference in head position when watching, plus the earlier assumption that Tao is gonna be better at TTs given British TT culture. I did see some talk about skinsuits but apparently that was irrelevant as he was in his own suit rather than the race suit everyone thought he'd have to wear?

Seriously, fuck ineos https://mobile.twitter.com/parents_4future/status/1320630825696825344

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is the worst of all the Sir Jims this country has been exposed to.
How’s about that?

With the Velon live power data on the last climb on Saturday you didn't need to :)
I still don't get teams going for GC with riders who cannot TT for shit (not including Jai H in this)
Climb for show, TT for dough! -

it was a risky comment and coul have gone your way !

I like to this he read that and it caused him to pull his bloody socks up.
-
• #29171
Because most riders who TT really well can’t climb for shit.
The ones that can do both tend to win the grand tours (Thomas, Froome, Dumoulin, Roglic etc)
The purer climber wins (sub 60kg) are less common, but Nairoman, Simon Yates, Bernal have done it.

Tao inherited the young rider’s jersey so wore a white skinsuit on the day.
Having said that, because Castelli sponsor the jerseys at the Giro, thé skinsuit was possibly identical to the one Tao would have been fitted for, and they may have printed a custom white one for him rapidly given that they are also a team sponsor.Sunweb isn’t sponsored by Castelli, so even if the skinsuits are better than the ones at the Tour, may have been a non optimal fit for him.

Re the skinsuit I read (Dr Hutch on Twitter maybe) that it was the standard white jersey skinsuit but Ineos put a special textured underlayer beneath it to improve its performance.

Yeah, just leg pulling.
Was there any doubt?
Tao ftw!
