  • hello Forumers,

So, the time is nigh for me to start assembling my ultimate dad mobile. All the parts are acquired, the wheelset is on its way from SPA and my 60cm pink Kepler pre-order from Brother will ship in a fortnight. My new garden workshop lockdown project is watertight and finished enough to use, and so I'm going to get this thread rolling now so you can all advise me on the many stages which will no doubt cause me trouble as a relative newbie to geared bike builds...

The parts list is as follows...

    60cm pink Kepler frameset
    Cane creek 40 headset
    Fizik 100mm stem
    Surly Moloko bars
    gum quan grips
    misc black seatpost
    Fabric scoop saddle

    wheelset:
    Kinlin XR31 rims
sapim spokes (front 32H rear 36H)
    rear 105 thru axle
    front Shutter Precision hub
    WTB venture gumwall 700x40c tubeless

    drivetrain & brakes:
Shimano BB-R60 Ultegra 6800 bottom bracket
    GRX RX600 single 40T chainset
SLX right hand 11 speed shifter (i-spec II)
SLX M700 rear derailleur (medium cage)
    SLX 11-46T cassette
    M8000 11 speed chain
SLX callipers and levers, pre cabled brakeset
    Deore centre lock rotors
    XT PD-T8000 pedals

    Extras:
    Thule Yepp rear rack
Thule Yepp maxi rack mounted child seat
    Surly Nice Rack front rack

I'll get some exciting pics of my parts bin up in a couple of days...

but the first bit of help I need to ask for... Do any Lewisham/SE based forumers have a) a bike stand I can loan for a couple of weeks b) a headset press tool I can loan for a couple of days? In exchange for your generosity I have this almost untouched case of very fruity Will Sark beers available to trade!

    Welcome pointers:
    any compatibility issues I've overlooked?
best dynamo lights that also have a USB out?
best XT-compatible SPD shoes that I can also wear off-bike

    Unwelcome pointers:
"Why did you buy that when I prefer this" etc...

    THANKS!

  • Interesting - I’ve been thinking about a flat bar conversion of a CdF, but not done it yet. How tall are you?

  • How far from SE26 are you?
I have both you can borrow for free.

  • best dynamo lights that also have a USB out?

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Axa-steady-939876-Flashlight-Black/dp/B009V9MHHA

These can be had cheaper if you shop around a bit, not sure how good they are.

  • I'm 6'4, but looking for a relatively upright riding position. Also the Moloko bars have a few more stretched hand positions

  • That would be awesome, I'm in SE6, but I have a car

  • You can borrow my Lidl bike stand - I’m in Peckham.

  • Interesting I haven't come across these yet, about cheaper than the b&m one

  • Work out which one is closer to you, let.me know.its a tacx job. Just need to dig it out the shed.

  • I think you are closer Chalfie, and it sounds like you have both the stand and the press? Where abouts in SE26 are you?

    Thanks though nankatsu

  • Wells park can sort it out for tmrw.
Headset press is home brew variant not posh store thing.

  • No rush, I'm not in town this weekend and frame isn't arriving for another couple of weeks!

  • I'm a huge fan of the B&M Luxos U. Will charge Garmin/Phone at low speeds.

  • That looks to be the best option, but I'm just annoyed that it doesn't lookasgood as the IQ-X

  • Interesting. I'm 6.3 and decided Brother frames will not fit me. Their 60cm is too small when pouring over the geo charts.

  • Why would you do this to me?

  • Oh. One presumed you'd decided it did or had ridden one. Perhaps your body proportions are different from mine.

  • I hope so! Haha

  • All parts on stand by. Brother emailed to let me know the frame delivery has been pushed back to the 20th now, should have arrived tomorrow. Bummer

  • That looks like a well prepped box of parts. Following with anticipation!

  • always irritating when you're expecting a delivery and it gets pushed back.
I have a kepler in 56 whereas I'm probably more suited to a 58, but decided I'd rather have a bit more standover so hopefully you'll be ok. the head tubes come up pretty short though so you may have to run a few spacers.
interesting to see how it turns out!

  • Well, still no frame. Brother are having some issues with congestion at felixstowe apparently. But their tantalising Instagram stories of them trying out their new frames are keeping me stoked.

Wheelset arrived from SPA yesterday so today I got the tubeless setup and out the rotors and the cassette on. And the pink dice caps of course

Nothing more I can do for now...

  • that storage 😍

    Auer?

  • Oh yeaaahhh. I'm a photographer and when I was a lighting assistant we used to work in Berlin a lot. Compared to the shitty black crates used to send kit from London rental places the sleek, stackable and modular grey boxes used by the German rental companies were the stuff of wet dreams. I took a snap of the Auer logo on the lid of one but it was 5 or 6 years before I finally got my own workshop and could dig out that picture again, make a huge order and have it shipped over
