There's a lot to be said for Hope's simplicity when it comes to bleeding.

I hate gates
I once rode from Bradford to Bolton Abbey to Burnsall and back. There's so many fecking gates between Bolton Abbey and Burnsall.

Always bleed from Caliper to lever in the church of shimano.
And yeah - XT can be an upgrade if you match to another XT or higher... 400.... WTF?

Dropper yes, but international travel from Australia is still out of question.

And here it is, with dropper and in the middle of a bit of testing ;)

Looks good, but isn't anywhere near muddy enough.
-
• #18585
It rained a bit last days, but it's not enough to turn into proper mud. Driest state in the driest continent on earth blablabla ...

So, I pumped this lovely new Nobby Nic up on Monday. Fast forward to today I’m sat in the lounge with the mrs and BANG. Head to the dining room to investigate to find this.
It’s not been ridden yet since pumping up and is in a cool room.
Why?!
@fabric for your amusement...

Well that sucks
Why?!
Shit from the factory so the bead snapped?
Maybe it really liked your teaset

What would a fair price for my XX1 cassette be? I'm all Shimano now, so looking to move it on. It's what I put on the Scalpel when I had the carbon wheels built, which IIRC was April 2019. It's in very good condition, I would say.

So my brake woes upthread has been solved with something similar.
Installed with new hose, fresh pins and olives.
Used a diff smaller syringe, pushed with vigour from caliper side, small oil explosion in the funnel attached to lever, black oil appeared and everything went on smoothly after. What was it that was stuck? I am 90% certain there was nothing in caliper, new hose too ..
So in theory and on bike (inside a shed) it MT400 and XTR M9100 works, now just pray I dont die on the first ride.

Stans rim?
-
• #18593
There's some tape that comes around some of the fittings for shimano hydros, kinda white gunk, I've known that to get stuck before, not black shit though, usually that would be degraded seals in older brakes, maybe from the calipers if you've been using them a while.
-
• #18594
no to both .. calipers used less than 500 miles, brakes less than 100 miles, so weird, what sort of tape?
-
• #18595
Yes, that appears to be it. Beads snapped in multiple places :(
Impressively it blew apart a cardboard box next to it!It was a Stans rim.
Off to the tube only scrap heap this tyre goes. Seems a shame to bin it.

Gunky white shit that I assume is some kind of PTFE thread sealant. If it wasn't that specifically then no idea, just throwing random experience into the mix.

It hasn't, as you still have mt400 calipers on your
XC racegravel bike -

With my MT7 woe I understand if people don't believe me, but the Trail SL's on my hardtail have been excellent - simple to install, quick to burn in.
I do need to shorten the hoses slightly, but that's a when I can be bothered type thing.

That'll be when the curse returns.
“I really wish my brakes were worse” said no one ever.
