Anyone used Denon gear? I’m considering a more advanced, all-in-one digital set up. Specifically, the Prime 2.
The positives are that you can mix from streaming services (Tidal, Beatport), even over wifi. It has a hard drive bay, so you can load up your files and leave them on there - or just via USB. It’s compatible with Rekordbox. It’s fairly compact.
The negatives (or unknowns) are that it’s only 2 channels - so I wouldn’t be able to use it to create a combined vinyl set-up, although that would command more space than I have. I’d use same amp/speakers, but would just have to plonk it on top of the closed deck covers when in use (or power it up elsewhere with some other speakers I have. I think it’s portable enough). Although it’s Rekordbox compatible, I’m not sure how compatible- it might have issues. I’m also not sure how easy or possible it would be to mix back and forth between your own files and something on Tidal/Beatport - surely that would be simple, though. The filters are limited.
Main competitor is Pioneer XDJ RX2 (or RR - can’t work out the difference). That would give better Rekordbox obviously, but doesn’t have the streaming.
Essentially I want to continue messing about with streaming as I have been with the DDJ 200, without the faff of setting it up with the phone and having to use the phone for it at all. Plus have a clearer path towards creating and building my own library of files. In combination to what I already have and what’s in my Bandcamp, I’d probably start just ripping my vinyl by year and try and do a certain amount each week. Best laids plans and all that, though - that’s why I think the streaming is so important to have.
