Clearly I’m in the minority. I prefer a jacket to be the outer layer and usable with baselayer, but mainly with baselayer & jersey. The reason? I want to ride with a jersey when I take the jacket off. If you’re riding through the the night or over several days that’s important.
I agree for short rides a winter jersey (or jacket over baselayer) is fine.
