Don’t love mine; it does the job for filter coffee but nothing outstanding I’d say. Very noisy, not that easy to dismantle to clean, grind doesn’t seem remarkably even. So all in all, five hundred times better than a Porlex.

Gonna rec Plot again. Had a great Ethiopia in Kaffeine the other day

Ok, good to know.

Yeah, I'm also a Plot fan - feel like everything I get from them is consistently great.
Coincidentally, this should be arriving today. I've probably jinxed it.

Would anyone on here be interested in an Aeropress funnel and stirrer? Their just taking up space, hardly used.

Just ordered a couple of bags from plot; the bale mountain and the rancho dantas.

Almost dialed in my JX Pro and I'm very impressed for $159. Grind consistency is brilliant and grinds are very fluffy. 30-40 seconds to grind 17g of medium roasted espresso depending on how fast I'm grinding.
First properly-almost-dialed in shot was vastly improved over using the finest setting on my not-appropriate electric filter grinder. Crema was thicker and richer in colour and texture. Really good.

As pretty close to dialled as I’m gonna get. Crema is good, flavour is good, but it just doesn’t have the same mouthfeel or viscosity as a really great espresso. I feel like the ROK has reached the end of its road.
Robot here I come...
Dialled vs not dialled

Definitely nicer tone and greater volume - yeah that 'thick' feel of nice espresso is critical to a good coffee experience for me too.
edit - at least you didn't buy a 9Barista first, saved a bit of cash there : )

• #19342
We're heading down the same road! I'm ordering myself a robot for Christmas!
-
• #19343
Yeah. I just don’t think the ROK is geared up for it. Could buy a bottomless pf and a new tamp and whatnot but I may as well just put it towards a robot.
Interestingly, my dad got a 9barista, almost returned it, but then upgraded from a Sage/Breville Pro Smart grinder and got a 270wi instead and is now keeping it. He’s very happy with the result.

Huh, better man than me. TBF though flavour wasn’t really the issue for me.
-
• #19345
Ah fair.
I managed to just pick up what looks like an almost brand new Robot with an upgraded tamp, pressure gauge and arm upgrade for $390 shipped to my door. Spare gasket too actually. Very pleased with that!

Faux pas alert, but hear me out. A friend of ours likes her coffee but is stuck with a pod machine for various reasons. Has anyone tried the Pact pods? Any good? Surely they must be better than shop default both in flavour and environmental impact.
-
• #19347
environmental impact.
You can buy reusable pods, I thought.
Pact claim to be recyclable, but that's pretty meaningless when it comes to plastics.

Got another Porlex Tall today, the new version... Looking forward to trying it out in the morning, the handle went on my old one again so figured it was time to upgrade!
Got it off my neighbour, saw he sells the Kanso Hiku as well... Was tempted to go for it until I saw the RRP, blimey!! 🤑 Lovely looking thing tho'!

Yeah there’s a big difference between ‘recyclable’ and whether it actually gets recycled at the refuse depot. The sorting lines are geared up specifically for separating plastic bottles, glass, cans and paper, which are easy to separate. The bulk of recyclable waste gets recycled, but anything which is too difficult to separate (e.g. mixed material waste) gets sent off to landfill. Splitting open used coffee pods and removing the dead coffee is too much, I don’t think it’s done.

Anyone know a place to reliably get the Japanese Hario V60 02 white paper filters? I can’t stand the Holland made ones.
Ordered some from Pact this week but of course the wrong ones turned up.
Do people like their Baratza Encore grinders?
