  • This is the best choc cake recipe ever, me and my son have made it a load of times. you can get away with using vegan butters instead of coconut oil and coconut butter. Makes for a much more cost effective cake (and is still super tasty).

  • I've made this avocado-based chocolate cake and it's really good. Very chocolaty, not obviously avocado-y, lovely moist texture. Very naughty mind, and not the sort of thing you casually knock up after supper for a quick bite.

  • You know how they say: “never read the comment section of anything vegan” I did it anyway. I think this will be the winner! I’ll try to source som vegan vanilla ice cream to go with it because I like the combination. Thank you for the suggestion!
    I’ll report back.

  • You're not supposed to call it a tip. It's a recycling centre.

  • I see you've been in the homeowner/DIY thread

  • I have failed a few times recently 😔. But I'm trying to keep it going.

  • Don't be so hard on yourself, just because you have fallen back to old habbits it doesn't mean that you have failed. Its pretty hard to change lifelong habbits, especially if the world around you doesn't change with you.

    What are you struggling with?

  • Its not failing :) I make mistakes still 5 years in.

  • I was surprised, but this chocolate mousse recipe works like a charm:

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/food/2018/sep/25/dont-save-aquafaba-for-scrabble-heres-how-to-use-the-vegan-miracle-ingredient

Ingredients all available from Sainos local. You'll need an electric whisk though.

  • Yeah mistakes. Just lazyness, takeout options and grabbing quick easy lunch on the go. At home coking is 100% OK it's either grabbing a snack for lunch or outwith friends at restaurants. 1st one was a treat 2nd / 3rd time I saw I was slipping bak in to old ways.
    Cheers all.
Overall I've felt v good from switching.

  • It's just a case of getting used to knowing what is in everything, e.g. if your friends want to go to a non-vegan restaurant with you that you know what to order, or that you know how to get a vegan takeaway. Just a question of practice. Great to hear that you've been feeling very good.

  • It's good I've felt fresher if that makes sence and home cooking has been really good I think the climate here is helping as we don't look to food to keep warm so lots of nice salads and home made flat breads. Dips and stuff 👍

  • Glad you're feeling better for the switch! As others have said, don't beat yourself up for struggling to stick to it 100%, it really does get easier with time. I found the first few months of veganism really hard but once it became a habit rather than something I had to actively think about it became much easier.
From the sounds of it you're somewhere with a better climate than the UK?

  • Sounds a bit like my girlfriend, we're 100% vegan at home, but when we go out or if she's on the go, she is ok with a vegetarian option. It makes it a lot easier for her to be out in the world.
Theres no going back to meat though.

  • You're in HK right? Being vegan really isn't very easy there so don't worry too much!

  • Pffft, as if there could be somewhere with a better climate than the UK.

  • Currently in Dalston sainabos for 6 quid.

  • Euro farmers have failed in their truly next level pathetic attempt to ban veggie ‘sausages’, ‘burgers’ etc.

  • Hoo! Of to the shops

  • Very curious about the blue (I imagine it'll probably end up in a pasta sauce). There's also a mature cheddar which could be good on a pizza.

Also, the Pukka vegan pies (in particular the mince and onion) are good. But note: they're kept with the meat pies if you're looking.

  • Pukka vegan pies

Er, pies? I fuckin love pies. I am pie-shaped. I am made to eat pies.

  • Do you have a link for a good article about this? One of my friends just told me about it
