  • I'd love to be able to have a go at this

    https://www.beyondmarathon.com/the-triangles-round

Edit: I might fuck off the foot (sore again after < hour on the rollers tonight) and have a go anyway if work gets closed. Will have to find nearest trig point & guarantee a phone a rescue lift from anywhere.

  • just kept running because walking hurt more

I've never felt that way on a long event!

  • Looks like great fun, not designed for the people of East Anglia though!

  • I've got a socially distanced XC race in Epping forest on Saturday morning. It should be nice and sloppy with all the rain yesterday.

Entry is limited to 12 per club and everyone sets off in waves of six.

Welcome to the future of racing

  • I have, when everything is aching it's hard to keep running so you walk but you're stiff so walking is less comfortable than the slow shuffle that passes for running by that point so you go back to running and although it's mentally quite tough because running should be harder than walking (right?) it's actually physically less demanding.

  • I’ve done something to my ankle. Did 22k last Sunday night and incorporated some hill repeats at the end. Felt ok afterwards but The next day had some acute pain on the outside of my left ankle.

Let it rest a bit and then a couple of days ago went out for a quick lunch time run and it was a achey but sort of fine until 4km in when it suddenly got quite painful indeed and I had to walk home wincing.

It’s been quite swollen and extremely sore since. Still very localised to the outside of the ankle and just above in an area maybe a couple of inches squared. It’s hard to walk.

Thinking maybe inflamed a tendon? It feels very different to a sprain in that it isn’t the whole joint. Bit concerned by the swelling tbh.

Maybe coincidence but it’s on the leg that overpronates and has a string of muscle hernias down the outside (they have never caused issues so maybe unrelated). Expect its to do with the pronation and running up and down hills at the end of a hard session.

  • As always my advice would be to go and see a specialist

  • We held our annual Meeting on 24th October by Zoom, this had been postponed from May and it was originally hoped to be an actual meeting but circumstances dictated a virtual meeting.
The usual formalities of elections and approval of Accounts took place, but the main discussion centred on our Championships.
Several options were discussed, but with the current difficulties of moving around the Country no firm decisions were taken, as any National Championships must be available for all.
We will look at the situation again no later than the end of December, and will do everything we can to hold both the 2020 Relays and the 2021 Saucony National at some point during 2021, dependent on restrictions imposed by Government and England Athletics. It was noted that the "National" has only ever been cancelled during the two World Wars and we certainly do not want to fall into that category.
Both Mansfield D.C. and Hampstead Heath are being very supportive of us and will be as adaptable as they are able to be.
We would like also to thank our Sponsors Saucony, who have continued to support us, despite the loss of a Championship in this calendar year, and they have also agreed to extend their agreement with us for another three years. We are most grateful in these difficult times and ask that our athletes support Saucony as much as possible.
Please be assured that we will do everything we can to get cross country running and our Championships specifically, back with you as soon as it is possible.

  • National XC v.unlikely.

  • It can't be much fun being an amateur sports administrator at the moment. Unless something changes significantly in the next four months there isn't going to be a X country season and lots of people will be lost to other activities.

  • Has anyone done a virtual physio appointment? I could see it might be fine if there was a specific injury that needed treatment, i.e sprained ankle, but I have a pretty vague knee pain that has been recurring for the last 3 months.

Don't they need to stretch, poke and generally have a feel around to work out what is going on?

  • My first session was virtual, followed by in person sessions. Didn't rate the virtual as it essentially confirmed why I had been referred and they said they couldn't tell much more without seeing in person.

  • That's what I figured. I was just about to book with Manni from Pure Sports Medicine, who was recommended by someone on here, but it looks like he's not doing in person appointments any more. Will have to try someone else.

  • Shanghai marathon ballot results are out today, and people who didn't get in have received a message simply saying "you failed", with a sad face emoji. So brutal. But it's really tickled me.

ShangMa was TBC for ages but the organising committee held a large 10k race a couple of weeks ago and it all went ok (also apparently we don't have covid here, LOLOL), so they got the go-ahead for the full marathon, though with fewer people than in previous years (20k instead of 40k, I think).

  • Anyone have any other physio recommendations in London?

  • Weird I thought he was doing in person judging by his insta (think it was me who recommended him).

Lucytriphysio on Insta (a friend used her and said she was good)

  • Anyone had experiences of replacing inner soles in Speedcross 4's? As a lover of 3's, when they fell apart I replaced them with the 4, but they just don't seem to have the same sole feeling the 3 did. (Feel much harsher).

Got me thinking I should try some different inner soles, but I'm a bit worried if I put in something too thick my toes are going to rub the upper.

Considering these for winter off road running, they seem super cheap. But if they’re going to be covered in mud I wouldn’t want to spend big money. Anyone had any experience of More Miles

  • Ah cheers, I've just messaged him to find out

  • If they are anything like their socks, they'll last forever

  • Good to know. £25 seems ridiculously cheap. I used to buy Adidas kanadia but they started to get really pricey

Went for a 5 mile run last night. Loved it, tunes, head torch was great, looking forward to the next one.

  • Apologies is this is an obvious question but I’ve googled and not been able to find an answer. If I do a tempo run that has an easy first mile and easy last mile, is it better to run that last mile in my easy heart rate range (below 140) or at an easy pace (which I did today but the heart rate was nearer 150)? The last mile felt easy and didn’t have the incredibly slow pace I would have had getting below 140 after my heart rate was up. Is there a hard and fast rule or just whatever feels better?

  • I'd go by feel. The main objective of the final mile is literally a warm-down, so on the one hand I often find the final mile of a tempo run is quicker than the first, just because I'm coming down from the quicker pace and the stride length is good, but on the other hand if you feel like jogging to get your breath back that's also OK. Hopefully over time you will notice not just an improved relationship between HR and pace at a constant pace but also HR coming down at a quicker rate during recovery.
