Other side might be quieter and less dangerous for the things you inevitably stack up while waiting for it to finish or be emptied.

Nearest the storage for crockery/glasses/cutlery. For unloading you want the minimum distance to putting away IMO.

Are you right or left handed? That is to say, after rinsing the crap off a heavy dish do you want to be holding it in your right or left hand as you try and ram it into the dishwasher?

Dishwasher next to sink is useful.
I'm really glad our sink isn't on our island as I really like the island as a prep space. Could your dishwasher be one of the 60cm units next to the sink?
