In other news I finally bought a Higonokami just like this one.

It's great. Incredibly lightweight and very slim in the pocket, easy to leave in the back pocket and forget it's there whenever you sit down.

I can envisage myself getting more of these and going for a spicier one with a fancy blade and handle next time as I've seen a few with damascus blades and brass, hammered or wooden handles.

If you are in London have the 112 for you to try and feel.

Ended up with this - slightly different shape from the santoku shape I went out for but similar & the same size. Very happy with it!

Hi folks, another recommendation request.

Very nice - hand filed, or was the blade socket welded onto a stub of handle?

(I suspect the brass knife is not technically legal as an EDC, but if e.g. kept in a pencil case with art supplies you'd have an argument that it had a legitimate use.)

No matter, I'll tap that out, I thought.
30 seconds with a jeweller's hammer and an anvil and "tap-tap-tap-tap-tap-tap-tap-tap-tap-tap-tap----plink!" I snapped the fucking tip off.
Ouch!
Some grinding to be done.

Ouch - I dropped a favoured paring knife, and managed to take about 5mm straight off the tip . I've been meaning to get it reground, but with only hand tools I've not yet got round to it.

Can you grind the end into a tanto style tip?

Any reccos for a good pair of garden shears? Have Okasune secateurs but want something longer for edging and hedges.
Saw knife there was some chat a few pages ago but also looking for one of those...
