My W.Norwood 4 bed (139sqm) was £680k and will need £100k of work to get up to spec.
That house is well overpriced.
-
• #37028
Yeah but you got a very good deal on that.
But it is overpriced. When I saw the sign I was expecting £750k

I am not doing any of the work, there are two tradesmen in the house at present.
They started last Saturday and should complete on Monday.
The only painful parts are:
- having no access to a toilet from 8.30am to 5.30pm.
- having no access to a shower for 10 days
If you had a property with a second bathroom, there would not be any issues really.
- having no access to a toilet from 8.30am to 5.30pm.

Please tell me you're going to line up the toilet so its central to the window.

If you fancy a laugh, we have just gone under offer in Catford at almost equivalent £/sq m for a 2-bed.

Remortgage question. Paid for a surveyor to value my property, which came back ~£25k higher than the bank's HPI valuation, happy days. The question is do I go 2 Year fixed at 1.79% or 5 Year fixed at 2.09% - rates based on 80% LTV.

Ahhhhhhhh.... we have a second bathroom so thats one less pain point, it doesn't have a shower but the shower in our main is disconnected from the rest of the bathroom so it could be staged/phased.

• #37034
Jesus. Take the money and run!
-
• #37035
They haven't even got Tado
WTF!

• #37036
which came back ~£25k higher than the bank's HPI valuation
Oooh... are you able to use a surveyor valuation to challenge the banks own valuation? Or just their HPI calculation?

Buildings and Contents Insurance. I'm going from paying >£30 for building only on a 2 bed flat to c.£65 for a 5 bed house buildings & contents. Does that sound about right?
-
• #37038
Still doesn't sound like particularly much
-
• #37039
my contents alone was over 250 this year..

per month?

having no access to a shower for 10 days
when we bought our current place, it had no (!) shower. we had to buy one of these and shower sat down in the tub for 6 months. grim times
edit: here's the before pic

Yeah we've got a mitre saw - one from Evolution™ which has been great
Also recently bought a cheap erbauer plunge saw and a longg track so we can cut nice straight lines in like 2.4m long cuts of wood etc
Pain level is moderate/significant, the benefit is that we know exactly what's happening and what we want done etc, learn new skills, save money
Don't have to worry about pinning down tradesman,Negatives - known unknowns, I'm not a trained tradesman so we will miss stuff/do things wrong but not realise
Outlay cost for tools
Time time time, say goodbye to your social life haha
