A third-party mini rack does both of those thinks and is much cheaper and lighter.
I have the standard rack on there, but thinking of maybe removing it. But not if it makes the bike a lot more impractical. It's just that I noticed a lot of Bromptons without it and was wondering why.
Marginally cheaper/lighter; I didn't go for the rack when I bought mine, and faintly regret it, but will probably get one of the aftermarket lightweight ones as and when I start needing to do lots of multimodal commuting again.
