@Eeyorecore @PhilPub Thanks for the recommendations. I've found some other options at XXCycle and SJS in varying degrees of niceness. My frontrunners at the moment are either the Carminas or Middleburn's RO2s, which look decent and use external bearings. The bike (a 1982 Colnago Super) is currently set up with full 2012 Athena so I need to work out if it's worth the expenditure, labour and damage to its - for lack of a better term - brand cohesiveness to shorten the cranks by 5 mm.

A question for the hive mind....
I've got an interesting DeMayo frame I'm building up with modern bits.
I have a matching MAX fork, and the steerer needs lengthening either way and I'm torn between going down threadless ahead OR threaded quill stem...I know quill stems just generally just look better, however with a slightly sloping top tube will this look daft? and should I stick with an ahead stem?
Any thoughts/examples welcome!
Excuse the terrible photo -

Whatever it is it needs to be black with that paint I'd say. Is it a 1inch fork?

Drilling cranks is not a good idea.

It shouldn't. I've had quills on my njs with sloping tt and hasn't looked bad

Plenty did it in the past though (including Merckx, who was nothing if not a powerful rider)

Thanks! I've built those Atlanta rims around a set o of 32H Campagnolo Daytona hubs with sealed bearings. They spin forever and are future proof for 11/12 speed. The braking performance of those rims is not as good as the previous (shallower) rims though. They where Rigida Chrina rims, an affordable and good option for VMB wheel builds, see attached pic.
