• Hi all,

I'm looking for a (200-500pounds) frameset to build up a single speed/fixie (via flip-flip hub). One option I have is the BLB City classic. Anyone have any opinions/experiences with BLB?

Another option is to convert a vintage road frame (horizontal drop-outs) into a fixie/SS....but just worried that it will be difficult to achieve a working chain-line and tension (I am a novice and this would be my first time building a bike from scratch...)

Thanks and any advice would be appreciated!

Cheap, looks pretty bombproof, wide tyres, flip flop hub.

  • I wouldn't pay 1/3 of what BLB want for those frames. If you want to learn, best to buy a frame from here (or Ebay) and use the (significant) change to buy tools and used parts, plus beer/coffee.

this is much less of an issue than you seem to think! did you read the replies to your other thread?

  • I see....

Yes, i did read the other replies, its just that I'm quite paranoid about things not 'fitting together'!!!

But yes...BLB is also quite expensive for the parts they offer, and I assume their frames are just made from a factory in Taiwan...

Like most of the other quality mass manufacturers..

    Everything else, China.

  • yes....

In my opinion, Taiwan is better than those Chinese Frames! *(I know because I'm from Hong kong and have riden I lot of Chinese frames when I was a teenager!)

  • THANKS...just PM for price and size...but does look quite big...see what happens!

  • @LeslieLamLam no probs, in my non expert opinion that looks like a 58cm or 23" if you're my age!
If you go this route I might have some bits you have either really cheap or free, bars, brakes, cranks, 1/8th chains. I don't think I've got wheels that suit.
    good luck

  • @TheShipwright

Thanks! just got the reply that its a 57cm....I'm 173cm and ride a 22"/55cm...which the frame may be too big! BUT thanks so much for your offer! But if I do find a frame in the next few weeks, can i contact you if you are still selling your old parts?

  • Hi @LeslieLamLam pity it looks a nice frame and forks and no probs contact when you need some parts, they're nothing special but ideal for a town bike.

  • @TheShipwright

Yes...I was getting a bit excited then! But thanks for your kind words and hopefully will speak soon when I find a suitable frame!

  • I had a blb frame pass through my hands a while back (picked it up cheap to build something for mrs m_v but size wasn’t right and she didn’t want a fixie anyway) and would agree with @MrMister. It seemed very cheaply made, ugly welds, poor alignment.

There’s a lot better out there for less money.

  • Cambodia is the new cheap far Eastern manufacturing hub.
