Another option is to convert a vintage road frame (horizontal drop-outs) into a fixie/SS....but just worried that it will be difficult to achieve a working chain-line and tension

this is much less of an issue than you seem to think! did you read the replies to your other thread?

Yes, i did read the other replies, its just that I'm quite paranoid about things not 'fitting together'!!!

But yes...BLB is also quite expensive for the parts they offer, and I assume their frames are just made from a factory in Taiwan...
