I have it but it's back home in morden and I'm staying down in brighton at my mums. I think I was up to the start of July when I last played albeit a good 9 months ago.
In my game the whole of Asia was totally fucked so I wasn't as keen on having to deal with the next game so it fell down my priority list.

+1 rep for @HatBeard those are some great reviews and will definately give a solo game a go now, never really thought of them being an option before
While I've been down here in Brighton looking after my mum this past year I've used solo games to pass the time most evenings as I was loathe to bring my console down and veg out in front of it (though I did cave in and do that last week), there's some really good ones out there.
Here's my collection link again, I put some solo ratings against most games after I've tried them a couple of times. in case there's any on there that might interest as well as the ones I mentioned.
also check out one stop co-op shop and rolling solo on youtube for good solo specific reviews/playthroughs.
boardgamegeek usually has community variants of solo modes on a lot of games too. if you view the games page and check the forums or variants tab.

I almost bought that last week but i have enough to be working my way through and not sure i'm in the right frame of mind for a game as (apparently) punishing as that one right now.

Anyone seen anything good and strategy based on a decent Prime Day deal?
-
• #586
amazon is usually a bit naff for boardgames, it's one of the rare things they often overcharge for even vs brick and mortar shops. also there's a lot of non-english games listed with english covers. i'd always read the reviews and check the details product specs to see if a language is mentioned at all when buying on there.
can probably dig up a few recommendations for you with a bit more info though.
number of players?
what kind of strategy are you after? area control, engine building, deck building etc
any preferred themes?
rough budget? -

number of players?
Playable with 2 players would be great

No idea. My OH just doesn't like things that are pure chance.
any preferred themes?
No.
rough budget?
Well I was hoping for a prime day deal so in the £20 region.
Alternatively at the other end I guess something like telestrations that could be played over Xmas with parents would be cool.

Never had any interest in board games previously(aside from backgammon which I’ve always loved) but spent a few happy evenings the other week with friends playing Ticket to Ride while on holiday. We were playing on the Europe map(which according to the guy that taught us is the best map overall), picked it up quickly, doesn’t take too long even with 4 players. Fun sabotaging eachother and all round really enjoyed it.
Sorry if it’s been discussed at length on here already, never been on this thread before ;)

welcome to your perfect homeboardgameprices.co.uk will tell you where the cheapest prices are (mostly) but board-game.co.uk (zatu) are generally competitive on the price and have a decent service.

Ticket to Ride is that rare game that both reluctant and experienced gamers find worthwhile. There are so many expansions and alternative maps now that your friend must have quite a few of them to be able to say that Europe's the best? I think among those I know I'd probably agree.
What I have come to find more decisive than the map itself are the small extra/alternative/variant rules they include. Most of them I think aren't as good as the original ruleset, but I understand that they want to give people some variety.

codenames is ridiculously good for such a simple concept
-
• #594
codenames really needs 3 on each team as a minimum as I think it is best when theres a lot of conversation going on.
mysterium is another game which can be fun with a decent sized group as people try to figure out what the hell the ghost is trying to tell them with the random cards but that is much more abstract (and expensive) and in no way strategic so i didn't include it.

Cheers.
Codenames is excellent. idk if all versions are like the Hungarian one I played but the artwork is sick. If anyone ever needs a tattoo and is struggling for inspiration, just buy that.
Patchwork is also great. In fact one of my favourite games as it's the first time I ever beat my OH on the first game. Also good because you can play in with kids, albeit with more limited tactics.

Bärenpark is similar to Patchwork, with some added extras around scoring.

From @HatBeard's list, Decrypto is a terrific game and once you've had that first go everybody that's played it will have an 'oh!' moment and want to play it again! Great review of it here.
We've enjoyed Patchwork too.

We bought Ticket to Ride NYC based on comments on this thread. Played first game last night, bit confused at first but got the hang of it and quite enjoyed it

Been getting beat at Jaipur by my daughter today, after a recommendation on here - thanks.
Also had a full family, four player game of Catan Seafarers expansion today. Great fun.
