They have a cult following, the bodies are aluminium but the suspension bits aren't and there are some horror stories with front suspension arms.

Just the pressed steel arms, same across the VAG range of that age. Early ones up to 02 had solid ones, first job, check yours.

Hope it is a 4 seater, the 5 seaters are a lot more difficult to remove
