  • petrol i'm guessing for the London thing.

  • In other A2 news... A brand new, never registered, roll off the transporter only mileage, one has surfaced. Been AC stored since then. Waiting to get a 21reg plate. Quite a bit of excitement around the forum on it.

That sort of thing must be quite rare as well. Someone buying two of a car, so if the first one breaks, has a spare.

  • Audio question.
The tape deck in my new to me ‘93 t4 is painfully quiet. Head unit is Panasonic J05 and ideally I’d like to keep it. There’s only 2 speakers in the whole van on the dash and the previous owner replaced the originals with some basic jbls(I think). I don’t want to be pumping out the tunes but can barely hear it at the moment.
    Ideas?

  • Are you playing actual tapes or using a tape to aux thing? If the latter, I've often found them to be quieter than physical tapes. Easy to check if the radio is louder too.

  • I'd be checking how the speakers have been wired... Check the polarity. Also check that there's no fader control... I once spent hours re wiring a head unit that was not going any louder than a whisper. Failed to notice the fader was turned all the way to rear, in a car with no rear speakers.

  • I did a local AutoX on Sunday in the Ignis, Here's a pic from the start line after i spent last weekend putting the new graphics on it

Got round ok and did ok in my class, only real negative was not wearing my headsets to drive it home and my ears ringing for an hour afterwards

  • This is so rad. Love the livery too.

  • Both. Tapes, aux and radio all v quiet.

  • Hmm there is a fader, fiddled with it but thought it was just going left to right. Will investigate further.
    Cheers chaps.

  • It might be a single fader/balance knob. Maybe pull out for fade?

  • Amp and more speakers

  • Composet, sub, amp.

  • If you had up to £3k burning a hole in your pocket for a second car, what would you go for? Rusty Japanese two seater, 95% depreciated german barge, van, motorbike (lol jk), or other? Show your working.

  • What’s your 1st car?

Does the 2nd need any kind of practicality?

  • motorbike

    Without question.

    Nothing comes close to VFM.

    Other reasons:

    1. they are physically small.
    2. you can work on them yourself.
    3. £3k buys you something with relatively low miles and wear compared to a car.

Finger in the air based on this thread... for a £3k fun car (whatever that is) you've got a 70% chance that it will cost you double that in keeping in useable condition on the road.

  • This is my 2nd car ( first is a vw t5) - bought to replace mk2 Mx5. Cost £3k 18 months ago and it’s been fantastic - needed more than 2 seats as we have 4 kids.

  • 1st car is an Ibiza estate which (touch wood) is modern, reliable and can do all the important car stuff. Would be good to have something I can chuck a #xlfullsus29er in the boot but then it would also be good to have a razzy little soft top.

  • A cheap and rusty mx5 with a bit of mot left. Run until too cold then use the remaining part of the 3k to get it welded solid for next year.

  • Yeah pretty sure motorbike would end in divorce, disownment and death unfortunately.

  • Yeah this is realistically the leading contender.

  • 2004 Triumph Daytona

    EXUP

    Husky

Obviously the risk of death with any of the above is quite high

Fair enough but you included it in the list.

While it remains in your OP, any other answer is wrong.

Another +1 for an MX5 though, or maybe an MR2, but based on current internet anecdotes you need to budget £5k for an MX5 now - whether that's upfront or in the next 2yrs. TBH maybe I'd be temped more by a hot hatch like a Cooper S. Or a Clio if you want more noise and fewer creature comforts. Especially if your other car is big and chunky.

  • I mean, I love a German barge.

  • This question has me searching auto trader for Clio 197s again.

  • I've had 4 mx-5's had really like them however the mini cooper s is 'nearly' has fun to drive but no rust issues and a much nice place to sit in, no condensation drip, etc and more practical - mine is the clubman which has slightly ore room in the bike for a bike
