  • No problem, we just need to massively increase our testing capacity and convince people to get routinely tested even when they feel fine.

    Should be easy? No?

    Just call Dido.

  • convince people to get routinely tested even when they feel fine

People already don't isolate properly when they have symptoms, chances of people volunteering to not get paid or miss social events when they feel fine is zero.

  • And we'll see an increase of "it's no worse than the flu" excuses.

  • So all asymptomatic people that tested positive were in contact with someone that did to get a test, were part of workplace testing programs, or fibbed they had symptoms to get tested and genuinely had it?

Just wondering as one of the criticisms on the T&T was not always lack of testing, but lack of targeted testing and follow up, throwing more tests at that won't fix that.

This is just a summary of findings.

Pretty awkward for whomever said "Don't waste Covid tests you must have symptoms" 😁

  • So all asymptomatic people that tested positive were in contact with someone that did to get a test, were part of workplace testing programs, or fibbed they had symptoms to get tested and genuinely had it?

Separate from the main test and trace system there is an ONS survey where people are randomly* selected and tested. This data is from that.

  • Why did you put an asterisk after "randomly", but not put an associated footnote in?

I've seen this a few times recently, on here, and don't understand the significance.

  • Yep, we're doing that. Get tested every Thursday. Think @Greenbank is too.

Another thing I'm trying to find the time to read.

  • 5 weeks at weekly, then 11 months at monthly.

    We're on month 2 or 3 of the 11.

Just the "do you have it" test. We weren't picked for the extra antibody/antigen "have you had it" blood test.

I had anosmia a couple of months before we started the ONS testing so there's a chance I had it (and was otherwise asymptomatic) but I'll never know since anosmia is not limited to just SARS-Cov-2.

  • Its picked from a pool of people who already do ONS surveys so not completely random.

  • Think today must be my last weekly one, Which is a shame as the vouchers have been a nice little weekly bonus. Kitted the kids out for winter kit from Decathlon with the last couple. It does seem overly generous in that regard.

At least this week I've had a cold, so I can answer some of their questions differently.

  • Is it? We're certainly not a regular ONS survey household, but suppose we could be on their list somewhere.

  • The vouchers changed last time we got some.

My wife gets the ones emailed to her, and we can pick places like Sainsbury's and Decrackalon.

My daughter and I got some love2shop vouchers through the post and the range of shops to spend those isn't great (we've used them to get some Habitat furniture and linen via Argos).

(The vouchers are generous, we plan on making suitable donations to various charities for the money we've received via the vouchers.)

We've done the ONS financial survey for the last few years (and did this year over the phone just last week) - only 45 minutes this time.

  • Ah, tx!

They thought 40% of people with corona don't have symptoms, looks it could be even higher.

Looks like the ONS doesn't do as much research in NI, but they are working with Oxford uni to get covid data here.

  • Sorry. I picked it up on some other online forum-type-thing. It basically means I know it isn't a random selection of people but for this comment it might as well be and I'm too lazy to look up what the actual allocation method is and add it as a footnote.

  • Sounds like I shouldn't have declined the ONS testing (although it was at a point when positive tests would really have fucked me over).

  • So I have a question for those more up to speed on current approach.

My brother works in a mainly outdoor setting (on a racing stable yard), one of his coworkers looked a bit rough this morning, so my bro asked him if he was feeling alright, the response was "Got a bit of a cough, took a covid test a couple of days ago, still waiting on the result" My bro instantly backed away, and told the boss, who sent the idiot home, but question is what my brother should be doing? The added complication is that his partner is 8 months pregnant, so he really doesn't want to give her anything. Partner has already moved into mothers house, so hopefully mitigates that risk. The question is should be going to work or isolating?

  • Officially I think you isolate if you have been within 2m for 15 minutes or longer. If I was him I would be avoiding wife if possible until colleague gets test result back at a minimum.

He is avoiding partner as of now. He doesn't think he has seen the guy for more than 15 mins, and hoping that his test result comes back today, as he is meant to be working at 6am tomorrow...

  • Shitty situation, I feel sorry for your brother, he shouldn't have been put in this situation.

  • No, his boss is absolutely furious apparently, this is a horse racing yard, and apparently the guy went off to the races yesterday, so could have infected people there, would not look good on the business if he did.

  • I would expect to get fired if I did that at my work.

  • I suspect if there is a positive result he may well be.

  • NHS app just sent me a notification like this

Weirdly once dismissed I can’t find it in Notification Centre nor any reference to it in the App. Can barely remember what it said - it wasn’t exactly the same as above.

Should I be able to access a history of notifications from it somewhere?

Edit: ok seems these are sent to shit you up a bit.

These notifications are just "default messages" linked to the app's operating system and the government has said a separate message will always be sent if a person is required to self-isolate.

  • I got two of those last week. Quite interesting seeing as I'm working from home and only doing click and collect shopping.
