HOLY SHIT!

When I pulled up the carpet in the master bedroom of the house we recently bought I found a live mains line extension connected with insulation tape. They'd wanted to move the socket so just taped some extra length, run it under the carpet and screwed the new socket to the skirting board. Live bare wire a few millimetres under your feet!!

I had the same. Except the shower screen had been attached to the first set of tiles so when I replaced the shower screen there was a gaping hole in the tiling.

I'm planning on adding a six foot run of kitchen cabinets with quartz worktop and upstand.

It all looks relatively straightforward but I'm not sure about fitting the upstand. The wall isn't particularly straight and over a six foot length there's going to be at least 10mm and probably bigger gap at one of the ends.

I don't imagine that quartz flexes much so what's the best way to get the upstand to stick to the wall and not look shit with big gaps?

Properly skim the wall.

Would this be the case for a right angle 3mx4m sides? We were hoping to put a stainless steel worktop in with an upstand.

Cheers, I suspected that would be the best route but was hoping for an alternative. I don't really fancy having to repaint a portion of wall and get it matching the rest.

Any idea what this would cost and anyone recognise design? It's 3.0m x 2.5m.

How element/sound proof do they tend to be? Would I be able to get good WiFi by running a mesh network? Its primary use would be to house turntables, records and PC.

It depends on what they are building it with, to be honest.

14k for 7.5sqm seems like a lot though.

Maybe, maybe not. Don't risk it.

You will be putting a cable in for power. Put a duct or exterior grade network cable in at the same time (fibre if you are feeling fancy). The materials aren't expensive and there is little extra work.

Anyone got an idea how much a roof inspection via scaffolding should cost?

Got a roofer coming tomorrow and no costs have been mentioned yet and I'm hoping any such bill is reasonable. But how much is reasonable?

It's a flat roof and three stories high... So not visible from ground and too high for ladders...

Minor project today but it's made a big difference now that the weather's getting colder. A vent in our kitchen has been stuck in open mode since we moved in, I've kept forgetting to have a proper look at it. Pulled it out, discovered the plastic piece that slides up and down was cracked, managed to get some epoxy in there with a toothpick, baked in the oven at 35°C for a bit, oiled the mechanism, slapped some random sealant around the edges and put the thing back in the hole. Currently held in by masking tape while setting. No more drafts while making coffee!

This stuff is brilliant for keeping stuff in place while epoxy* goes off.

* Or anything else - I used it to hold bits of wood in place waiting for plaster filler to go off, repairing backbox holes in plasterboard.
