@oheyitsdrew - thank you for your feedback!
@ZenithE - thank you as well, I see some quite beautiful Claud Butler bikes searching the web; wasn't familiar with them yet to be honest, like the style..
@withered_preacher ..thanks again, yea I guess the idea to build upon the mini velo stems from looking at how people seem to commute just fine with 2 or 3-speed Bromptons (so this is basically what I'd be going for, with a bit more "cargo" capability), plus the fact that, well, I already have it and all it needs maybe is some gears, a better saddle, and maybe switching the knobblies back to the original slick tyres, haha.

Top work there.

This is great. What’s the rear rack extension thingy?
-
• #24107
Thanks. It’s a Thule rack to be able to use a Yepp maxi rear seat. Supposedly you can run panniers behind the child seat when it’s installed, but the weight would be so much.

I worry for you when you post rim brake bikes
-
• #24110
Sometimes I think it's best to stay rim brake with functionals to decrease the stealability.
It does mean they don't work in the wet, sadly, but that means you can save money by not adding mudguards.

decrease the stealability.
really? Maybe because the functional bikes we fap over just look like pieces of shit to general public?

I'm talking within the lofty heights of theory. In practice... things get a bit murkier.

Not so sure. I’m seeing more of these builds around Broadway Market, which means they might start reappearing on Brick Lane. IYKWIM

these hubs are usually in the 110 OLD range
..went to see a guy of my LBS earlier today, he said those Eastern Germany bikes are actually 108.
He also posed the question whether I was really willing to throw money at a bike like that 😂

• #24116
Heh, that's why I said 'range'.
When the appropriate bike isn't available, you need to assemble one. -

Tim Moore rode one of those Mifas along the iron curtain for authenticity, but he did get it structurally modded beforehand:

No way, V brakes are excellent until they get muddy

What bars are those, Jungle Runners?
-
• #24124
Can confirm that v-brakes work fine in the wet. I’m not trying to get any Strava records when it’s pissing down.

Oh baby. Huge tires with mudguards <3
I'm in Canada so a list of brands wouldn't really help you.
http://www.classicrendezvous.com/Germany/Germany.htm will give you some names.
Do as these others have suggested, don't try and make the mini velo "a little faster'.
