Fair playing field imo. Makes for giant killing spectacalar.

Except with no crowds then there's no income for smaller teams who don't earn prem TV money and they'll all go bust. Really fair playing field...

Only if you class football solely as the premier league.

Why don't they all pay usual extortionate ticket entry to watch online?
Sure there would be surplus to line the lower league clubs?
-
• #154531
the whole reason the premier league is so popular is based on the passion of the fans. It has the most widely supported number of clubs in the world.
Although there are some amusing results being thrown up recently this IMHO is because they are just like training games. The players can't take it seriously without 1,000, 10,000, 50,000 or more (delete as appropriate for your club) screaming you on.

Because the economics of football is fucked.
I've been paying £10 a match this season to watch Derby on their own streaming service. This is going to be more expensive than being able to attend a few games that I can each season, but if it helps my team keep ticking over until stadiums can be full again then I'm happy to do so. Unfortunately the caveat is that Derby have had a shit start to the season, so not really been worth the money so far.
Teams outside the premier league rely heavily on match day crowds to keep them afloat. Without them a lot of teams will disappear soon. The TV deal in place for EFL clubs is not fit for purpose. The Championship is often ranked in the top 10 leagues in Europe to watch, but the amount of money generated from the Sky TV deal is pathetic in comparison to what Premier League teams receive. Some Prem money is passed through the other professional divisions, but not nearly enough to keep some teams from folding.

Partey should be a well tidy signing for Arsenal.

Watching football on television is soulless. Fake crowd noise is an abomination. Commentary and punditry destroy the essence of the game and create received opinions which become fact.
Football was best for me when I was younger. Chelsea were very rarely on television and if they were it was only for five or ten minutes on Match of the Day or the Big Match the next afternoon. Players were, apart from a handful, not celebrities. You never heard them speak. They expressed their personality through their play.
The standard of football was poor. Pitches were mud baths. Facilities at grounds were abysmal. And yet it was fun to go along, meet mates before the game, stand with them and enjoy being part of a crowd. Even crap games brought out brilliant humour. Yes there was a dark underside but it was easily avoidable.
Today, we are told what to think about football by Alan Smith and Jermain Jenas, there is no sense of belonging, no rhythm to the crowd. Footballers are all over the papers and we all know what shirts (and underpants) they wear.
The old days are gone and possibly for the better but without crowds no vestige of the past is left. We might as well be watching a couple of 14 year-olds playing FIFA 21.

Locally, even among non football types, there is considerable annoyance at what has happened. He was a fixture at local schools and kids parties and other community events. He was a means by which Arsenal reached out to the local community but like so much else, the local community don't matter as much as numbers of pay per view viewers across the world.

I know - they won't even let me renew my season ticket this year!

And without intending to talk law to a brief, I assume it could be quite problematic if you're making a bunch of people redundant and make an exception for one employee, letting him stay on the books for no pay (which is what he offered the club).

Still frankly disgusting that they have made 55 redundancies to save less than 1% of their player wage bill in the first place.

Normally i'd dismiss this and say business is business. Shareholders have to be kept happy and some people depend on their dividends. However, Arsenal is different. Its owned by a small number of extremely wealthy people who would not notice the gesture of keeping people on. Its greedy and its heartless.

Ozil stepping in for Gunnersaurus: https://twitter.com/MesutOzil1088/status/1313486087181021190
"... as long as I will be an Arsenal player"
Short term reprieve then?
-
• #154544
The fans don't seem happy, poor Ozil - he can't even do this right.
-
• #154545
Keeps him in a job until January and so over Christmas.
Apparently Gunnersaurus is in addition to the 55 scouts already given notice. All pretty ugly.
-
• #154546
Arsenal had 55 scouts? Don't they just type search: AMC + 5'6" + age=<21 + mentality=<10 into football manager and see what French player comes up?
-
• #154547
he's better than KDB didn't you know?
-
• #154548
Ozil likes to do a lot of generous things for charidy and he never likes to talk about it
-
• #154549
Partey is a real signing. Arteta might just be turning this Arsenal ship around. I wonder how city fans will be feeling in a couple of years time after Pep tactically out manoeuvres himself in another CL QF or two

Fuck yeah, Norn Iron!
Never heard of Liam Boyce before, wanna fuck him now tho.
Really? Why. I love the aspect fans can bring. I admit that toxic over the top hateful stuff is not missed but no fans at games to sing songs is a sad thing for football if it continues.
