No atomic transaction handling.
File based backup (at best, if it's being done).
Zero structural consistency checking.
File based granularity of access control.
Poor software engineering tools for programmability.
Change and version control at the file level, at best.
Multi user support is rudimentary.
I dont really have an issue with them using excel. It's how they are using excel that's the problem.
