@withered_preacher ..thanks again, yea I guess the idea to build upon the mini velo stems from looking at how people seem to commute just fine with 2 or 3-speed Bromptons (so this is basically what I'd be going for, with a bit more "cargo" capability), plus the fact that, well, I already have it and all it needs maybe is some gears, a better saddle, and maybe switching the knobblies back to the original slick tyres, haha.
