  • I don't mind him but I wouldn't go.out of my way to watch him.

I saw him at a charity gig about 10 years ago when he was less well known and he was funnier close up in a non-TV setting and EXTREMELY camp.

I also once saw John Bishop at the comedy store in Manchester before he was famous and he was genuinely hilarious. He had come direct to the gig from the airport or something and completely ad-libbed a half hour about his childhood in Winsford. Was well disappointed when I actually saw him on TV.

  • TV is a shit medium for stand up. Some times a comedian turns out to have a broader range of talent, but mostly what works well with a live audience over 20 minutes or more looks shit when exhibited in TV.

I've never been to live stand up but I have also never, ever laughed at stand up on the telly so I'm not exactly encouraged to spend money to go see it.

Actually, that's a lie. Mrs M_V took me to see Bianca Del Rio who, if you don't know, is a drag queen that does insult comedy. I was dreading it due to the aforementioned never having laughed at stand up on telly but actually it was great so yeah, maybe telly is just shit for comedy.
