  • Looks lovely! What did you use to polish?

  • Get a bottlecage on that downtube asap!

  • Cheers everyone!

@Tijs For now, I'll use look keo but I'd like to try the time xpresso pedals and they would obviously suit the bike better. I'll cut the steerer once I had the chance to ride it for a while to get it dialled in properly. I'm a bit hesitant when it comes to these sort of things.

@Matisse Some slightly abrasive paint cleaner and subsequently some paint sealant. I forgot the brand but I can look it up tomorrow if you're interested.

@Pifko I found some nice carbon ones the other day, I'll post a pic soon :)

  • What a nice looking machine.

    Have you ridden it yet?

  • Thanks, unfortunately I haven’t had the time to finish it...

  • Finally finished this:

  • Looks perfect.. how does it ride? If you’re allowed to ride where you are currently that is...

  • I'm in Berlin, where people are still allowed to go outside, suprisingly. I took it out for a few laps on Tempelhofer Feld - a former airfield. It rides really well, stiff but comfy and the accelleration is great. But tbh with the shallow rims I think it'd feel more at home in a hilly terrain :)

  • Primo

  • Been long man nice work on that bike, plan for slamming? Share your tip in that saddle pls looks clean

  • +1 for saddle hints tips and cheats!

  • It’s an SLR carbonio 135g, DIY re-covered with Alcantara. I removed the leather but left the padding on. The Alcantara is glued on with Uhu Kraft, the key is to let the glue dry for a bit to prevent it from soaking through the Alcantara.
Not sure if I want to cut the stem atm. I could definitely go a little lower but I’m hesitant in view of the re-sale value so I guess I’ll try to figure out over the next weeks whether it’s a keeper or not :)

  • Amazing what is the total weight?
I just got the same frame for 400€ cant wait to built it

  • Another 1st time poster here (no pun intended), just to say that's absolutely brilliant. Hats off.

  • Nice score, that one seems to be in pristine condition! Any build plans yet? Didn't even weigh the final bike yet since I don't have a proper scale at my place. I'll check it next time when I take it to the workshop.

  • Cheers! I'm currently planning some upgrades. I'll get new chainrings for the Rotor 3d Cranks that came with the bike when I bought it. That'll help me to shave off some weight and it'll allow me to run a compact set up with 50/34 instead of the 52/39 of the current 130bcd chorus cranks. I'm also about to pull the trigger on a posh wheelset. I'll also swap the vittoria corsa tyres from another bike onto this one. The wheelset comes with a shimano freehub body, so my plan is to get an 11 speed ultegra casette in 11-28 and an ultegra chain to use with the campa group. From what I gathered so far, this set-up should work well :)

  • Been following your thread and that's a lovely bike. Without hijacking your build here's my VX Edge. Currently running Chorus 11 but planning on switching out for Super Record from another build at some point.
I bought this bike new in 2004 with Record 10 and Ksyrium ES wheels. Sold it in 2015 to fund a Canyon. It then popped back up for sale again on ebay in 2018 and so I bought it back. Stripped off the mix of chorus/record 10 speed and added the Chorus 11 and the Cosmic wheels.
Unfortunately the original seat post was damaged when I bought it back so I have replaced with a Fizik carbon.

  • That looks lovely and proper dialled! I got the original time stem as well but unfortunately it's too long for me :( I don't mind the hijacking, on the contrary it's nice to see this thread turn into a post-your-young'time'r-thread.

As for the new wheelset, I just purchased these:

I wanted some reasonably light handbuilt wheels with aluminium clinchers. I thought about buying a set with tune hubs but the freehubs on those appear to be prone to cracking so I didn't want to buy them used. So given the reasonable sale price and the value of the hubs + the fact that the wheelset checks all my boxes, I successfully convinced myself that these are in fact a somewhat rational purchase.

  • A while ago I got some scans of Time Manuals for the VXRS provided by a kind paceline-forum member. If there's interest, pm me.

  • V2 with rotor compact cranks; alpha ztr 340 x r45 with shimano freehub and 11 speed 105 casette and chain.

Those stems are horrible but I understand it’s necessary
