I know practically nothing about dubstep, and not sure whether this classifies as grime, or even what all the sub-genres are and if it’s one of those, but know when I like a riddim and this is absolutely ruff. From what I can gather it is by an artist called AS.IF KID and is called either ‘Paranoid’ or ‘Immune’ and only came out on an actual dubplate that you could buy in a limited run of 20 as part of a double pack. Nuts.

Yeah limited dub plates is part of the sub culture dubstep belongs to. They're all children of general dub / reggae / soundsystem music of the windrush generation.
There's been talks of it's revival / "golden era" but personally I think that there's so much cross pollination w/ this music these days that it's kinda pointless to call it anything other than "UK flavoured bass music".
There some real interesting articles on the hardcore continuum too if you are interested in this kinda ting.

That’s really interesting. Never seen dubplates sold like that before, as an actual release.

I have been into dubstep since the early years. I started listening to J Da Flex's underground knowledge and he was playing some early DMZ stuff (although they maintain their music was not labelled as dubstep). I think Loefah's Horror Show was the tune that got me really addicted to the whole sub-bass sound.
I am fortunate enough to own DMZ001 to DMZ014, those boys have put out some incredibly good music.
I think dubstep now is very different to how it sounded back then in the embryonic days.
The tune that started it all for me (you have to listen with speakers that can handle the sub other wise you miss a whole dimension to the tune)

This one's such a banger.
I just set my system back up after my son was born, finally found a place to put it all where he can't reach it, and have been replaying the early dubstep all-star mixes, Youngsta, Hatcha, N-Type, Loefa.
One set I only recently discovered was Mala's vinyl only Boiler Room set from a few years ago, that was one I would have liked to have seen live.
Boring old man chat but it is wild how stuff we went to as part of a "normal night out" is now internationally revered. I was in Calgary a few years ago for work and Youngsta just happened to be playing live that night! I was going to go but I shared a colleague's PAX, got absolutely blazed unintentionally and feel asleep face down on the floor of my Airbnb living room.

hahaha
ahh man unfortunately I wasn't aware of the stuff happening around london until 2010 and by that point things weren't really the same and all my friends were indie kids. Remember seeing Magnetic Man at Reading Fest one year and whilst I loved the excitement, I could tell it was just a bit too flashy. Went back to my car absolutely shit faced to listen to Hatcha, Skream Benga etc on Kiss FM lol.
Would give an arm to experience one of them nights at Plastic People.

Does this go here? If not, what is it? It has all the elements of an old No U Turn or Penny Black drum and bass release, just pitched down. Like it.

I tend to like more of the early deep medi stuff / early 08 09 stuff

It's just a shame that people nowadays don't usually associate these classics with the genre.

I agree, I used to listen to J Da Flex's Underground Knowledge and he loved the early scene and did a lot to promote it. I was gutted when 1xtra pulled his show.
BTW - Burial is a great artist, I've got a copy of South London Boroughs somewhere

This is definitely my favourite era too. When I have been out in the last few years, DJs seem to reserve these era tracks for the end of the night, but it's a struggle to stay out until 04:00 just to hear some classics through a good system.

These london boys are worth a looksy for the newer current strain of the genre.

I also LOVE the cross polination we're getting these days. That Orson / Version vibe.

Last time I said "cross polination we're getting these days" but really if you look hard enough things go round in circles right? 2006 this one.
