I mean, I could still just delete it. ;0)

As the person foolish enough to start this thread, you have my blessing
-
• #13081
Could you just delete gravel bikes entirely?
-
• #13082
Nah, it's been useful. Even if gravel in 6 months is just everyone buying hardtails and turning their gravel bikes back into road bikes.

looks at 700x50 gravel tyres, ponders

That bike is so much fun to ride.
Cut the bar a bit shorter and get rid of the dropper and you’ll have a cracker.
Ridiculously expensive compare to the Sirrus X (£1700 for a base level alu).

Now this is how you do modern day gravel commentary.

Hope not, I was planning on getting the Sirrus X 2.0 for £600. Well, I ordered it in May on C2W and its due date is still mid Nov (tbc)...

I did. It would be fair to say that, today at least, if that was a gravel ride, gravel bikes should really just be hard tail MTBs
The G-Ones I had on (like that firefly) were no match for this

That wasn’t even the worst bit! I took the line to the left over the branches—bumpy but not as slippy. There were a few spots where I just couldn’t get enough traction to maintain forward progress, and had to get off and push. Panaracer Pasela ProTite 32s 🤦♂️

Get an MTB. Much fun. ManyBounce. Wow.

This is a tyre problem not a bike problem

You need to consider a route like yesterday’s North London Dirt 3 in totality. I debated riding my hardtail, but, all in, I think the gravel bike was the right choice. Despite pushing for a few ‘sectors’, I rode 98% of it. If that had dropped below 91% I think I’d have preferred to be slower on the road sections with a hardtail.

I've seen cross tyres out perform mountain bike tyres, they get their grip from cutting through the mud rather than trying to grip the surface.

^ Exactly.
Cyclocross tyres are what I have on my 'gravel bike' throughout the year, Schwalbe x-one Allround 35mm.
Get you easily through far worse conditions than in the photo above plus they ride plenty fast on tarmac too.
