They're 0k-can be a bit watery. You really need to roast them then mix them with a bit of ground nutmeg or something if you're stuffing pasta with them, (I did this last year), or for risotto try this: https://vegeyum.wordpress.com/2007/12/18/roastpumpkin/ for risotto-else they can be a bit bland I found.

The horror!

I've harvested a few sweetcorn and they've not set seed fully throughout the cob. Anyone know what the deal is with that? Absolutely delicious, though.

Bought a rotavator last week. Can't wait to whip the plot into some sort of shape.

I'm struggling with scale here, are they mice or rats?

Mice.

Ah yeah. Buggers have had my sweetcorn every year, I leave them to the feral cats though. Rats are also a problem which the council are dealing with.

Yes they are nice. Not sure the traps would kill a rat.

I’ve never seen a rat at the allotment but that doesn’t mean they aren’t there. Voles are another problem. My allotment height has some in her compost bin. She thinks they’re cute. Fucking idiot

They are cute. Doesn't mean you want them eating your veg, but you can't deny their cuteness.

Tomatoes are coming through thicvk and fast at the moment. Delicious.

Another mouse bit the dust today.

On a more positive note I planted some more raspberries

Last decent harvest of the year. Squash was 5.3kg which is ok. Nothing else grew properly on the plant.

Hoping the huge tomatoes will ripen. No idea what variety they are or what to do with them. Here they are against regular sized tomatoes.

Update: Pretentious squash is delicious. Only got the one though.

We've got some very similar looking tomatoes, some of which I cooked up in a (vegan) shepherd's pie whilst still green, and that seemed to work very well. Some of the others are turning red after a week in a bowl with a banana!

Having started modestly working with half a plot this year we've just started uncovering some tarpaulin to free up some more planting space. Pleased to say that the bind weed underneath has been way easier to clear than what we started with in January, and next strategy is to plant a wild flower patch and maybe a couple of apple trees. Oh and this little fella was living under the tarp. Frog or toad??

In my limited experience, yes. They are quite needy and need a good deal of feeding, water and sun, and we’re probably done with the latter for the year which is what really brings them on.

No Squash unless we get a very long mild autumn, as the plants will die with first frosts. I'm in the same boat.

Managed to get to the plot today, low expectations after a month away but a reasonable haul of leftovers from the summer crops.

Unfortunately in slightly less Instagram worthy imagery it seems I got to those tomatoes too late. They’ve got late blight after all that rain.
