The interlocking tiles you linked are quite 'foamy', and not so dense, though it may not bother you. I did use similar purchased from Halfords of all places, and duct taped the seams on the top. The denser rubber matting or commercial grade gym foam/rubber flooring is much denser and seriously heavy.
2 plywood boards and a couple of tennis balls and you have a rocker plate...
Yeah, 20mm is that I was thinking.
Also thought of reverse taping the seams from the underside to make sure nothing seeps through.
Ideally you'd put a plywood board above the carpet below the mat for additional stiffness (and cost)
