  • Indeed. He hasn't published that gag on his website yet.

  • The incompetence is reaching truly staggering levels.

This morning, a junior minister on breakfast news couldn't answer whether those subject to new lockdown measures in the north east could meet in groups of 6 in a pub garden. She didn't know - which went down badly, but isn't that surprising given the new guidance is confusing and everyone knows this government is generally pretty incompetent.

However, with the PM set to give a speech at lunchtime, with questions from journalists, how in the world did Boris not know the answer now? Does anyone actually know what the answer is? They've had 4 hours to make sure he has a decent answer to a question that was 100% going to come up and he/they fucked it. What is going on? Who is working in the No 10 comms team. Does Boris have any ability to take on information, or did his team not brief him on this? Whichever is true, it is incredible.

I can't help but think they are going to get rid of him. He quite simply has zero ability for the job on any level - this was about as basic as it gets, and he fucked it.

  • Who is working in the No 10 comms team

Call it a hunch/semi informed guess, but I doubt the issue is with the comms team. More a refusal to work with the comms team and wing it alone.

  • I can’t help but wonder what the Queen makes of all this. It’s now a bigger loss of British lives than the Blitz, and clearly it’s a very different No. 10.

  • "We need to be getting this virus done"

Just awful words. Desperately looking around him to find someone to tell him the answer.

  • I don’t disagree with your sentiment at all, but isn’t it ‘getting the virus down’? As in suppressed.?

  • She’s probably pleased she has fewer Happy 100th Birthday telegrams to send.

  • I stand corrected. Thought he was re-hashing 'Get Brexit done'.

  • Apologies, I misspoke today.

In the North East, new rules mean you cannot meet people from different households in social settings indoors, including in pubs, restaurants and your home. You should also avoid socialising with other households outside.

This is vital to control the spread of coronavirus and keep everyone safe. If you are in a high risk area, please continue to follow the guidelines from local authorities.

P.s. never new @BorisJohnson was on here until now.

  • "We need to be getting this virus done"

Just awful words. Desperately looking around him to find someone to tell him the answer.

It was an easy mistake to make given the berbling incoherent rabberlings we were submitted to in that press conference.

  • Still not sure it answers the question, which was "can up to 6 from different households meet in a pub garden?"

The answer is either "no" on the grounds that the pub garden is still the pub, or "yes" on the grounds that its outside, and meeting in a group of six outside is not illegal (but is against the guidance).

  • He's not a details man.

  • Love that he’s quick to apologise for this, and not for anything else, like for fucking up Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe chance of release.

  • Clearly not, but it means 1 junior minister, 1 PM speech and 1 twitter apology later, we still don't appear to know the answer to the actual question.

It's difficult because if the answer is "yes" perhaps they don't want to say that, as it would still be contrary to the guidance.

If that's the case, it might be because defining a pub garden is difficult within legislation, or that they intended to allow pubs to still serve groups of up to 6 outside, to aid their business, in which case - why is it against the guidance?

    I think I'm lost now.

  • Measure of the man.

  • I'm in no way defending him. I have been lost for a long time.

  • Corona case as my son's school (nobody in his direct group) and several at my partner's workplace (he can work from home, but some people do need to be in for production/factory/floor management)

Le yey! Hopefully nobody will get too badly ill, it's not clear yet where my partner's colleagues picked it up, the floor is huge and everybody is spaced out.

All to be expected, but perhaps I should pack my son in a hazmat suit and keep him in it when he comes back from school, with eating only allowed upstairs in his room with all windows open ;)

  • Kids love camping.

  • Clearly you need a setup like this:

  • A half term holiday dilemma:

We have a week booked in France for half term to see family, booked as soon as we found out what the half term dates were. 2 weeks quarantine on our return, which we have experienced already when we came back from France at the end of August. Our daughter is in reception year, so she most likely won't miss anything very important. However, 2 weeks at home after relative freedom almost drove us insane last time.
How are schools likely to respond? Wife is due back from maternity a week or so after half term, so being in quarantine is unlikely to be the way she wants to spend the last week before returning.

Anyone know if there are any measures planned for testing to reduce quarantine duration?

  • How incredible that actors, directors and DOPs all have 100% guaranteed immunity and can avoid quarantining?

Fully appreciate that allowing people to earn money again is important, but this does seem like a very un-scientific and unfair rule.

  • Yeah that is infuriating. Makes you think why should I bother.

  • All of the rules are about managing probabilities at a population scale.

Allowing small, specific groups to be exempt is absolutely consistent with the science, because even the worst case scenario doesn't significantly increase spread at a population level.

Whereas every grumpy git in the land deciding not to follow the rules does significantly increase spread.

Although if allowing the former results in lots of the latter, which we know it does, well...

  • Dont know where you are going but France is a bit of a mess right now. I wouldn’t be visiting my family there now unless it was serious. That said, from the outside the UK is barely better so.... who knows?
