Cheers.
Sounds like that explains why you don't see them about. Probably similar cost and less faff to hire a van or pay someone for those odd occasions.

I can’t believe we’re still going round in circles on this one.
- Use car you already have but take off wheel
- Buy massive suv eg disco 3
- Buy transporter
What am I missing?

Have the collective invested in this considered somekind of bling trailer?
-
• #58255
Yeah, it just buy a small trailer if you have somewhere to store it, can pick up second hand ones for less than that carrier and tow 750kg on a standard license.

Needless procrastination?

How does one go about finding out if you can tow?
If a dealer sells a car with a OEM provided tow hook, surely you can tow, no?

No just a funny angle. 602ccs. of awesome power.

Check the gross train weight figure on the VIN plate- it indicates the maximum for vehicle and trailer, if the figure is blank then you can’t tow.
-
• #58266
Gross train weight is the row of dashes in the above picture- no towing for this vehicle.

And I imagine it’s a buyer beware thing- if a previous owner has fitted a towbar it’s still your responsibility to ensure that it’s legal to use it.

Dealer fitted/spec'd when ordered.
I swapped cars with my folks when we had mini-H as my mini didn't have rear doors, so it's my mum's old company car... which my dad insisted was fitted with a tow bar for his motorbike trailer, just like the two cars before. None of which have ever had the trailer fitted.
Actually that's not fair, it was fitted to the first once.

Sorry, my point was in response to the generic conversation about the towbar load things, didn't think a trailer was the answer to all your prayers...
-
• #58270
They're not that reliable. They also have very high load trays so useless for carrying bikes (rear engined after all). Syncro Doka though, dream vehicle!

What about using a tow bar rack and getting a boat maker to make a sort of solid fibreglass rear cover kinda like a cab top, but that is flush with the car? Isn't there someone on here who's a boat maker? Get them to give you a quote.
sort of a solid one of these:

or what about just buying a Honda Jazz and hiring a student /similar to drive over the day before you leave with all your stuff?
-
• #58274
Cheers. I'm probably misinterpreting "easy to fix/work on".

Having said that our air cooled one pretty much never stopped, it just leaked oil everywhere. Add water and I can see why they didn't have the best of reps.
I think it was 'orrible foreign teeves
