It’s really bleak, really quiet around the university. First year halls has got to be the worst place to get locked down. At least by second and 3rd year you have found people similar to yourself to live with, usually have some sort of house and a phone full of local dial a dealer numbers.

Didnt he muddle his words up? I think the false negative rate is about 7% for the tests they use in Italy. If the swab is properly taken.

What he said was ambiguous. It's very hard not to be ambiguous when talking about test results, false positive rates and percentages.
For example, I've no idea what you actually mean by "the false negative rate is about 7% of the tests they use in Italy." as it's not completely clear. It could be taken 3 or 4 completely different ways.

It seemed like the clip was cut.
Was he saying "our tests in the UK have a false negative rate that is 7% lower than that in Italy" or "7% of the rate" ? -

Have the people studying Comp Sci noticed?
Harsh. But familiar to me

I rode through Whitworth and Platt fields last week, was absolutely rammed with students day drinking sat slightly further apart than normal. I was a bit jealous.

I've noticed Google Maps recently stopped giving walking directions via Broadway Market. I wondered if this may be an attempt to divert people away from particularly busy areas.

Maybe not the best but they’re still hormone driven students living in the digital age. They’ll find ways to cope
I’m sure. -

Friends dropped their eldest off at Bristol last weekend for her first year. She was in a flat that's part of a hall due to be sharing with a whole bunch of other girls. What she didn't know is that the others weren't arriving for two days. Meanwhile she was getting texts from all of her friends banging on about how good the freshers stuff was at the different unis they were going to. Oof.

So angry about the university shit-storms; UCU have been saying for months we needed to be working on an online-only basis at least until Christmas, and planning to give students as good an experience as possible under those circumstances, but, as ever, VCs and government have spent their time alternately bullying staff and sticking their heads in the fucking sand.
This possibly won’t apply to the furloughed city pub manager I know.
