Not for me, now it has matt black paint. As long as the owner likes it though, that's all that matters.

Thanks for a positive feed. Bike is still in the process....any suggestion for a 31.8mm quill stem?

Please don’t do that. Just get a 26mm quill and appropriate bars.

I think the only respectable 31.8 clamp 1”quill stem is the nitto ui-12

I agree that the only appropriate action would be to get a 25.4 / 26.0 / 26.4 mm quill stem and matching bars. It'll look way better and will likely be cheaper overall than sourcing either of those 31.8mm quills.

If it were me I'd do the following:

• Try to wipe the black paint off the head badge. Even if it's beaten up. Acetone? Something else?
  
• T-cut or Autoglym the black paint on the frame, then pre-wax cleaner then wax it
  
• Fit a ~26.0 mm stem and a matching handlebar that has flat ends to the drops, like a Nitto compact option or maybe Deda Piega / Bontrager SSR VRC / Soma Highway One
  
• Remove the wheel decals
  
  

A different option for the paint would be to treat the current black matt layer as a base/primer and then use a can of spray.bike on top, any colour. Darker colours would perhaps be best given your current black paint. Then you have the option of applying vinyl Pinarello decals/transfers and covering the whole frame in a spray.bike matt or gloss/satin clear coat (or another clear coat / varnish).

I haven't tried the spray.bike stuff but I'm planning on having a go with a housemate's bike that he rattle-canned. Why not for ~£10 per can. A puppy-rescue winter project, if you will.

Yes sir! that's a good advice and will consider it. The original quill stem is still on hand and maybe just get the soma highway handlebar. Decal's is on its way too then do some clear coat after I intalled it. The badge is still in place just covered with masking tape, what's wrong with the matt black paint?

Consider it in terms of cars. You probably wouldn't buy a 70s or 80s classic, say an original mini or beetle, a little tatty but with it's charm, and spray paint it matte black.

It's one less classic bike in original condition, there's only so many. Just a shame is all.

If it was a Colnago it would be an act of mercy, as it's a Pinarello the jury is still out. Anyway I like it so far, nice build.

It's Pinarello Montello and was sanded already when I bought it. It's a bummer getting it like that and should have stayed with the original color.
