  • Quite shocking really, you just don't expect a car of that age needing work like that. Still, it's honorable in a weird way that you are bothering to keep the car healthy. More environmentally conscious than scrapping it and buying a Tesla.

  • put the v8 in a tesla

  • there was a lovely cx gti turbo on ebay recently. low miles, so £££, but it was lovely.

  • Were you asking about a C5? Presumably the x7 series? No direct experience but they still look fairly contemporary and the interiors look super comfortable. I know many people here in the French car circles think they're the best car ever made. My mechanic thinks they're good, but the Diesel ones can have issues. Personally, I'd love to own a hydractive car . Very nearly bought a xantia once.

  • Because I'm looking at automatics the range at local dealers is pretty minimal in the sub £8k or so band I'm looking at.

Cargiant is looking like the likely option at the moment.

  • I was thinking it would be a lovely drivetrain in an S124

  • That's insane.

  • yeah I saw that as having being monitoring the bay and other places for a while.

as much as I would like to drive a CX GTI for a few days I don't think I would go down the route of owning one. probably get something a little more sedate - the Pallas being my first choice.

but will see if and when the time comes

  • now that is something I can get behind

  • I am the C5 person.

Also the one with the citroen/pug software.

  • Cargiant is looking like the likely option at the moment.

Look at the prices of the cars and the sales techniques I think I quite interesting.

  • Does expensive oil make a difference? I'm going to replace my gearbox oil. The recommended spec is 75W/90 GL4.

  • As long as the oil meets the spec, you'll be fine. Seems cheaper per litre if you buy 5l or more. I would avoid tripleQ oil tho.

  • yep. the x7. i'd def go for a hydractive estate. i would want all the toys too.

there apparrently have good rear legroom (the bigget issue for me) and are comfy as fuck.

  • dredge, how're you enjoying the Clubman? My O/H is very keen on one

  • Want to hear this.

  • Ask yourself what the total cost saving is and how often you'll change it.

  • I'd also do some research in to the car you have to find out if they often have gearbox problems.

My car is prone to the gearbox shitting itself, so I'll be replacing with the correct factory spec'd oil when the time comes, in the hope to offset the inevitable for as long as possible.

  • So I'm toying with the idea of an MX5 - more than likely a mk2. Is there anything I should look out for besides the obvious rust?

  • Read up a bit - consensus is to buy a cheap rusty one and get it welded.

  • Inports cost more to insure, but are better speced.

Rust and regular oild changes to gearbox and diff. Sticky brake calipers.

  • I was idly browsing one of those import sites the other day and they offer sealing on import. Seemed like the safest way.

  • Not sure if it is a good idea, the sealing isn't done that well. No prep or pressure washed and then coated.

  • My question was more related to whether castrol super whatever garde oil was any better that aldi equal grade.

  • To add the to sill chat. I'd say get an mk1. Why wouldn't you want flippy up lights?
