I guess that's the best we'll get. Ta.

The descent of the Cormet de Roseland proved spectacular at a couple of occasions though

Me and a friend did the Roseland last year, in the reverse direction to this year's race, and in a camper van. It's long and steep and there's a lot of hairpins. We got to the bottom at Bourg St Maurice, slowed down to get on to the main road. And the brakes failed, completely. My mate steered us off to the side and we just sat there for a minute in silence.

Porte is going to make hell of Super Dom next year isn't he
This year he's rubbed all his lucky charms. Next year he'll be launching himself and Dan Martin into the side of a mountain again, or his bike will turn into a clown car and fall apart at a critical moment, or he'll end up in the back of moto etc etc

Hah. My almost-certainly-never-going-to-happen firstborn will be called Wout. And hates to the haterz.

I loved playing this to my kids for the first time a few years back. Excellent reaction.

Sorry, I am just fascinated by Horner and his insight at the moment and that felt very similar; https://twitter.com/hornerakg/status/1306207507765960705

If you're following Chris Horner you only have yourself to blame.

Alaphilipe got most combative rider today. Seems a little odd from what little I saw. IE carapaz and Lopez riding away from him and continuing the attack on the summit themselves.

Neither of them know the words to Le Marseillaise though, so did they really attack?

I read somewhere that it gets decided 20km from the finish

It's the Frenchman Of The Day award! Who else is going to get it?

it was very early on - he had a bike change. pretty sure it was him. the crank didn't actually fall off but he was kicking it back on and then changed bikes.

There's 2k of flat gravel doubletrack at the top of the plateau des glieres, so it could get interesting. They went up it in 2018 for the first time.

Descended Roseland to Bourg St Maurice on my road bike 10 years ago with the fireflies .. it was exhilarating and terrifying in equal measure. The road tarmac was brand new, if I ever return to the alps gonna be on a motorbike.

True, I managed it on the road bike but wasn't helped when the guy in front of me stopped and I had to try and move across to the other side, that middle bit was a bit deeper!
