My three grails haven’t changed in years. I’ve snagged one (or close enough), only two to go.

anyone tried the snide AliX watches?
prices seem to vary from £40-£400
Are the more expensive the same but priced by chancers? -
• #47859
I own a few "homage" watches but no outright fakes. I've looked at the ones on AliX, DHGate is better for outright fakes btw cos they don't take down the listings as much. I wouldn't bother spending on one that doesn't have a Miyota movement, some will just say "automatic" and that normally means a Seagull or equivalent and you can expect the crown to fall out at some point.

This is nice, I wonder if Steeldive have that model (there’s a UK shop now).

My tastes must be on a two year rotation. It’s nice to daydream that you pop into a quiet charity shop and find one these pieces, not sure I could ever drop the sort of money these things now fetch.
@jv The Seiko and Citizen bullheads are the first that spring to mind although one’s huge and the other tiny. I bought a Citizen on ebay ~ 8 years ago and subsequently learned it was a redial and the case was badly spray painted although it seems to run/set/fly back OK. There are soooo many fakes out there. At least my mistake only cost £90 iirc, even the shitters seen to sell for crazy money now due to the impressive 8110 movement. Every now and again I dig it out and pick some more paint off it.

I love the idea of the Singer team showing up with a book of prototype dials, really surprised they didn’t get destroyed.

Ha, the day got busy but...
Took about 10 minutes. Really high quality for 50 USD... Can't imagine spending a grand on a real one now.

Only real issue is that it's not really my surfing watch now as the metals weight isn't great in the water.... Will just have to buy another tide mapping G...

Jesus...are the fauxtina ones really a grand? I thought the £300 that Jana paid for my normal steel one was steep!
-
• #47871
i think they are Ti rather than steel, and £1400...
Edit, there is a £900 "aged" black steel, and £1500 titanium camo etched ones.
Madness. -
• #47872
Total madness. £300 to £400 for mine is just about arguable. Expensive but a great watch. I dont feel ripped off. £600 more for it to look old? Gtfooh!

Whats the donor watch?
Some 5600 variant? -
• #47874
Yep, a G-5600E. The full Metal replacement shell is pretty much a perfect fit. The bracelet is not terrible either... Jangly but comfortable and easy to get just the right fit. The watch is in now heavier, but not in anyway uncomfortable.
