Before getting round to ordering the wooden dowels for the toddler climbing frame I came across some cute mini pallets outside Halfords. One of the guys said I could have them, so I put all 3 in the boot of my Golf (seats up - to give an idea of size).
They were fairly smooth, so a bit of sanding and the last of my outdoor varnish made a child safe surface.
It stayed up with friction fit, but thought it best to secure it. Finally got the correct length bolts and bolted them together with some spare washers and nuts.
Other than the cost of mistakenly ordering 12mm bolts and the correct length 120mm ones it was effectively free.
Quite pleased.
More redneck engineering / style than what I had planned to build, but it seems to work.
