  • Are you looking to convert the wheel to 12mm or replace the thru axle with one without a lever?

If converting, check your end caps will fit in your fork, I've had a pair machined down for this reason, as they were too big.

Getting rid of the lever - Brand X do them

  • I endors this message

    generic thumbs up gif

  • I have some Hunt wheels so can have them 12mm or 15mm by changing the end caps.
The forks are 15mm only. The current thru axle has a QR and a whacking great big spacer, it look awful. Brand X don't do the correct size, this is my issue. 15mm Thru axles are all MTB width, not road/gravel. So the best option is to go to 12mm. Which means I need to modify the forks. The JJBP adapter kit looks the best option.

  • Pfadfinder incoming

  • Snap. Red or green? Green for me!

  • 10 Pfadfinder CP threads incoming.

  • Also green. Had the axs full build in the cart for a while but I’ve got some ideas on the wheels & finishing kit and don’t want to risk trying to resell bits

  • Awesome. Yeah I went frameset too. Already got 2 bikes to part out and make room for this!

  • don't forget to buy the pas normal studios kit to go with these !

  • Unfortunately all the matching green jerseys are out of stock...

  • genuine question, but 1700 euros for a frameset seems a bit high, what's the steel and weight ?

  • Yeah it's a lot. Steel was Spirit on the last one but now says 'selected Columbus', which is a little mysterious, and they say 1850g. For me it was more that the geometry and clearances were exactly what I was after, and I couldn't really find the same elsewhere.

  • Also anything in euro seems a lot these days.

  • definitly, it's a sweetly designed frame, there aren't any other fast winter frames with gravel potebntial. but i can't help but think that they are trying hard to conceal the relative low quality of steel, against price.
A genesis equilibrium takes 35mm tyres and is almost half the price

  • Also agree that it’s expensive. Price does include a Chris King Inset 8 headset & a bottom bracket but obviously aesthetics have led this decision more than value for money

At least it’s cheaper (& lighter) than that Cinelli Nemo gravel frame someone posted a while back

  • Standerts aren't cheap. Their aluminium road frames are £1200.

    Nice but pricey

  • Giving all them frames away to "influencers" has to be relegated somewhere.
But people are buying them, so marketing does seem to work. :)

  • Which is ludicrous.. That buys a complete CAAD with 20 odd years of development and pro racing heritage. A bunch of monocrome insta crap is hardly liquigas winning pro races.
    Rant over

  • Yeah but how many likes is a CaadX going to get? I feel you’re missing the point here

  • exactly ! a genesis vapour is same rrp, half the weight, but an infinity of likes below since it will get you Zero

  • Licks or likes? As the target gammon market for notgravel bikes I'm not involved with SM..

  • Pfadfinders Anonymous

comparing steel to carbon or aluminium frames just pricewise is not fair!?
I ordered a Pfadfinder, i got too many issues

  • So I went ahead and did the thing, so here's my MTB frame with non-adjusted gravel forks.
predictably, BB drop is going to be my enemy, but I think with big tyres it will be ok?
Currently with these wheels I had with ±25c tyres the drop is 235, which is danger zone
I have calculated it would be 262 with the 2.1" 29er tyres I wanted to put on it, so if I have a 165mm crank that seems pretty safe, but I am wondering for smooth road riding (or where I am not expecting #nogravel), whether I can get away with 35c? And is 165 really necessary, or can I get away with the BB30 cranks I already have that are 172.5? Maybe I can trade down...

Also, is baby-blue gravel the new baby-blue fixie? (I might have to paint the frame to match the forks ;P )

  • That looks... long. Is the stem being swapped for something shorter or are you secretly part gibbon?

  • That was just the first 1 1/8 stem in the parts bin, but I actually think the reach is not too bad - I would have the seat post further extended though, so the proportions would be more square... I'll have to see how it feels when I actually have it built up to ride though!
