I think, mostly with these, don't you want the "this is going to be a ball ache to cut through, let's go somewhere else/see what else we can rob"?
Because you don't want them to try it, fuck it up, and damage the bike but you can't do anything after insurance wise? -

I bought this and seems to be well made, still to install it though, comes with all the requisite bits to anchor in the ground.

Yeah. Especially as it's in a garden where I imagine they will be trying to be very careful about the noise they make.
I'm not sure what I can do about the "try it and fuck up" bit. That's sort of our of my hands, no?

And thanks!

You want to make it so if it's opportunistic "jump over the fence, what's in here, oh that looks good lets have that, oh it's locked and anchored fuck that" happens rather than
opportunistic "jump over the fence, what's in here, oh that looks good lets have that, pull pull, smash smash, fuck let's go without it!"
get an attack cat.

And this is a good vid on how to install

I think this is the best place to ask the following. Not bike specific but more general storage.
How are people with large amounts of parts storing them? I remember going to the vintage bike cave in highgate once and they used something like mushroom trays on metal shelving units.
Other than that I haven't really been to many places that store large number of parts where they need regular access.

Two big plastic boxes. And a bucket. And some wire racking on some shelves. And the floor of the shed. And a little pile by the back door. And some bits in the loft. Some stuff on/under/next to my bedside table. Some on a shelf above the stairs. Also in a locker at work. And under my desk at work. And there's some stuff which I've forgotten where it is altogether.
If there's a better solution than the above then I haven't heard of it.

There's a load of mushroom boxes on eBay in Rayleigh for £1 each.
Happy to stuff my car with them for a group buy and bring them back to London
Great excuse for a list

I always liked the look of the shelving system that DC Rainmaker had in Paris.

Search for 'Elfa' in that page and there's links to various bits, specifically: https://elfa.com/en-gb
(In Amsterdam he now uses big shelving units and plastic boxes which don't look anywhere near as nice but are probably way more practical.)

There's a load of components in boxes under the bed too, along with a stash of rims. A few rims in the airing cupboard too. And the footstool in the living room is full of cranksets.

And I thought it was just me.....

Oh, and saddles and some Brompton wheels/rims on the sofa.

The shelving with the wire baskets holding my cycling kit on the right of the pile of components in boxes is Elfa. It's good stuff.

Mushroom boxes are great for mushrooms, not much else.
They are very fragile,I use them for apples off the allotment, but you need to treat the boxes with kid gloves or they will break.
Also your local corner shop will gladly let you take than away foc. -
• #1397
Are they really that fragile? What would be the next up from that in terms of strength and of a similar style?
I was thinking to do this but less hoarder style -

Are saddles an alternative currency in the Fens?
-
• #1399
Not to anyone other than me. But when I discovered that Selle Italia were discontinuing the Flite Gel Flow saddle, and it's skinnier cousin the Flite Flow Carbonio, I decided to stock up. That's the stock. Well, most of it. There's a few in Switzerland too.

Thanks for this: I showed it to my partner - who routinely bemoans the volume of bike shit lying around the place - as an example of how much worse it could be. She now appreciates my restraint.
Looking for a cheap metal loop I can attach by drilling into some cement in our back garden to lock bikes to. Lots of stuff on Amazon, but I'm not the most capable when it comes to DIY so it's all a bit of a vague muchness. Any reccomendations?
