Mushroom boxes are great for mushrooms,not much else.
They are very fragile,I use them for apples off the allotment,but you need to treat the boxes with kid gloves or they will break.
Also your local corner shop will gladly let you take than away foc.

Are they really that fragile? What would be the next up from that in terms of strength and of a similar style?

Are they really that fragile?

Not really. I used to collect them for my parents when I worked in catering coming up 30 years ago. They probably still have over 100 of them filled with various bits about the house/shed.
