Just watched the end the slow mo showsthe while but of WVA flicking the bird and Sagan asking me?
-
• #778
(is WVA acceptable?)
I think so, only if pronounced Wuvvah?
-
• #780
I lol'd, for real

Sagan looked like he was throwing his weight around a bit in the intermediate sprint too.
Edit - looks like and Coquard just touched shoulders fighting for Bennett’s wheel.

His reaction on dutch tv to Sagan's faux pas was also class. Patlef should take notes right there.

Boardman really shouldn’t experiment with ‘humour’.
-
• #784
WVA fined 200 smackers for flipping the bird.
-
• #785
What's the deal with those silly fines? 200 euros won't matter to a pro team, neither will the 1500 I saw upthread. Why aren't they higher?
-
• #786
Prize money is also laughably small so it's all proportional
-
• #787
WVA is fine guys
surnames are OK, first names basically completely out of order unless you're actual mates with the rider -
• #788
A lot of pro cyclists aren’t balling like that €200 will bite.
-
• #789
The point is they are small enough not to cause the riders and teams to bother about them but high enough that they add up to a tidy sum by the end of a three week race or a whole season.
-
• #790
Theres 2.3m euro of prize money, its not that laughable is it?
-
• #791
what does a middling pro rider make, do you reckon? at what level does being a pro cyclist not pay the bills? just curious, really.
upthread people were talking about jerome cousin working as a landscaper. is that common for that level? what does, say, juraj sagan earn?
-
• #792
Is it a personal fee, rather than a team one? I’d assume the teams would pick them up
-
• #793
I'm sure I read Sagan is getting €5m a year with Bora, and he is one of/ the highest earners.
Edit: https://www.brujulabike.com/riders-earn-more-money/
Sagan highest 5m
Froome(dog) 4.5m
"G" 3.5Not sure if that includes all sponsorship deals, of just team wages.
-
• #794
yeah i can imagine the top sprinters and GC guys get a load, and anyone on ineos or movistar would, but what about, i dunno, jelle wallays? simon geschke? what are they on? 70k? 100k? something like that?

I can see why Aru's ds is pissed with him.

Dunno about a middling rider but the world tour min wage is €40k.
I remember reading about some teams paying reduced wages while the racing wasn't on so not being paid much and having lots of free time I can understand them wanting to earn a little more doing some gardening.

There's a minimum wage for World Tour riders, not sure what it is these days but it was €36k per year when it was announced, if memory serves.
I doubt many riders are on that, I think most established riders earn around €70-€100k, then obviously much more if you're a serial winner of big races.

No way of knowing if these are base salaries or if they take into account sponsorship deals, influencer instagram posts, etc.
He's got to start winning some stages now. Love that from WVA, class tbf.
